    Xbox One: Fan Runs when returning to desktop after gameplay


    Heya, I have recently had a issue with my day one console, the fan runs for a short period of time when leaving a game to desktop it runs for approx. 5 to 10 seconds. Not a gentle whir more a light aircraft taking off type of noise. The console is not obstructed
    and I occasionally let my wife dust it (with supervision of course) this is a fairly recent event up to this point its been pretty much silent.

    An update: is it now appears reluctant to boot up, I get past the tasteful green Xbox one splash screen then...... oblivion (and no not the dovakin kind)

    I'm guessing this is pretty terminal, but advice would be appreciated if there's someway out of it.

    Also what's the deal with out of warranty box's

    Insufficient Ventilation Problem

    I can hear the fan if i lay my ear on the system... and the one time i bumped it after it shut off, the fan was going like it would in a Desktop PC. that's the only time i really heard the fan.

    Does anybody's fan on the xbox one seem to always run hot after playing it only for a short time??

    I can hear the fan if i lay my ear on the system... and the one time i bumped it after it shut off, the fan was going like it would in a Desktop PC. that's the only time i really heard the fan.

    I've run both the DISM and SFC scans, and cleared the temp and prefetch files. I'm not running any 3rd party content. I reinstalled the game and I still have the same issue. When returning to the menu, restarting a flight, ending a flight, the game exits to desktop essentially.

    Yes that's exactly the problem. Like at one point the fan got louder when the screen went black, but after downloading halo 4's update from the disc, the fan had the normal running sound

    Spilled some soda on top of xbox slim right into vent. Now fan is super loud.

    Does the fan sound like it is running faster? The pop might have messed up what ever controls the fan and the fan is running faster. Sending it in to xbox would be the only way to fix it anything with the fan. Trying to open it up to fix it would breach
    the warranty and is against xbox TOU. If you dont mind the loud fan though, and it does not affect gameplay at all, then it is not that big of a deal. But if it is under warranty, I would rather be safe than sorry and send it in to get fixed.

    It looks like your console is set to instant-on. This type power mode is available to allow your console to install updates when powered off, return you to the dashboard quickly after startup, and allow you to remotely install games to your console from your Xbox App on PC and Mobile.

    You can change that by following this step:

    Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

    Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Power mode & start-up.

    Select from the Power mode drop-down menu to change the setting.
