Xbox One fan/hardrive noise? Any help will be appreciated!

Hi all,

I just bought a second Xbox One to replace my old one, and I have noticed this very low sound coming from within the console. It is not by any means very loud, the noise is not noticeable once I start playing, but it's simply one of those things that once you
hear it, you can't "un" hear it haha

Any insight will be appreciated! Perhaps because the fans are silent, I am capable of hearing the hard drive spinning? Does the hard drive even spin constantly? I hear this when I am idling in the dashboard, I don't really notice it when I play, since...I'm
playing haha. To even hear the noise I have to try REALLY hard, or be at least <1 ft away from the console, literally have my ear right next to the console.

Again, any insight is appreciated, especially to people who know tech stuff. Thanks again!

Thanks LostKauz. I shall give Microsoft a ring and see what they say. If I cant use an Xbox one it will suck but I guess PS4 is a great console even though I am not a fan of playstation's user interface or the controller!!

My thinking was I would buy a 12 month membership now on my profile on 360, and I'd assume it will carry over to the Xbox one? If it was region locked on Xbox One, I could always change my region to a UK one...

 

My friend who works computers, and a little researching on youtube makes me believe that this is simply the HDD working, and the noise is more apparent due to the quiet fans.

Any other opinions insight is still welcomed.

If anyone is wondering, the noise I am describing is literally very, very low in volume, again, must have ear right close to the machine. As I learned, the HDD makes noises like scratching or something when it is working, as it should. Since the Xbox One
is using a HDD, it's only natural to hear some HDD noises when it is turned on, is what I think.

So yeah, for anyone who faces paranoia like me. If you try very hard to listen to your Xbox, you MIGHT hear the HDD working (some might not hear it at all, but each console don't sound the same, but it doesn't mean it is broken.)

TL;DR: I think I may have found the cause of the low volume noises; the HDD working. I'm writing this for anyone else paranoid like me. Yeah.

 

This has been happening to me too has me thinking I needed to send it in
