Xbox One Family & granting exceptions to content limits for child accounts: Allow Always ...

    Hi there helpful forum members,

I am having trouble with my Xbox One and Family settings on child accounts when it comes to access exceptions to games above the approved content lists.

In short: Allow Always exception doesn't save to the "hidden" (at least hidden to me) allowable games list and keeps asking for permission on the child account every time my console powers down and back on again to play another day.

For example: As the parent in my home, I don't want my children having access to certain mature content until they are older. So, I make a child account and set it up for Content and Apps for ages 3 and up. This gives me peace of mind about everything they
can access without me constantly watching the screen. But, when I go to add a game as an exception to the child account's list with my adult account I get two options: ALLOW ALWAYS or ALLOW JUST THIS ONCE.

I choose ALLOW ALWAYS and expect the Xbox One to remember this exception. But once I power down the console it seems that this gets forgotten somehow and I have to make the game an exception again.. Xbox One Family & granting exceptions to content limits for child accounts: Allow Always ... :) ......and again.... :| .....and again... Xbox One Family & granting exceptions to content limits for child accounts: Allow Always ... :(
    .....and again........

So it would seem that this option of ALLOW ALWAYS is doing the same thing as ALLOW JUST THIS ONCE.

Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong to not get the setting saved? This seemed soooooo much easier to use on the Xbox 360. Any suggestions how I can fix this???

    :)

[Guide] Child account and xbox live privileges

You think you are an adult stuck in a child's account? Well here are the steps to follow in order to change your birthdate in a MS account.

For most people, in most regions

Sign in to Your info on the Microsoft account website.

    Select Edit your personal info.

Change your birthdate, and select Save.

For child accounts, in some regions

If the birthdate on a Microsoft account says that it belongs to a child, there are different steps to take in regions such as the United States of America and the Republic
of Korea, and other regions that regulate what children can do online.

I'm a parent, trying to change my child's birthdate

Using the parent's Microsoft account, sign in to your Family page on the Microsoft account website.

Select Manage my child's profile info.

For the child’s account that you want to change, select Edit this child's personal info and then follow the instructions.

I’m an adult, but my account thinks I’m a child

To change your own account from a child account to a full account, you need to prove that you're an adult. You have two options:

Option 1: Provide a valid U.S. credit card number

Option 2: Send proof of age

In case you want to grant exceptions to your kid's account
to view content that’s rated higher than the child account settings for your family, you don’t need to change all of the settings to give access to a specific content type, such as a game or a video.

Any adult in the family has the ability to grant exceptions to the content limits currently in the child account settings for your family. You have two options in granting
    exceptions:

Always – This option grants a permanent exception that can’t be revoked.

Just this once – This option is a one-time-only exception. It expires as soon as the child signs out of the console.

Note If you’re allowing your child to purchase the game or video to which you’re granting an exception, the content must be purchased, downloaded, and installed before you can grant permission
    to use it.

Have your child sign in to their account on the Xbox One console.

Locate the content you want to allow your child to use.

On the Choose who will give permission screen, select the account of the adult family member who is providing permission.

Enter the adult’s account email address and password, or the console’s passkey.

Select either Always or Just this once.

After you give permission for your child to use this content, they can open the content immediately.

Xbox One Family & granting exceptions to content limits for child accounts: Allow Always ...

So I contacted support and chatted with a Rep. They troubleshot the issue, and reset the child account. I powered on my Xbox One, signed into the child account.

Touched the Console power button (not controller) for 5 seconds.

Removed Power Cord for 30 seconds. Powered back on, signed in as the child account.

Went to Network Settings, advanced settings, cleared Alternate Mac Address, and restarted console to apply changes.

Went to Remove Accounts in Settings. Removed the Child Account.

Went and added the child account again.

Logged into parent account and under family chose the child account and set up my restrictions again. (Chose age 10)

Then switched profile back to child account and chose a game I knew would be blocked.

Added exception and chose allow always.

Played game. Then turned off console.

Turned back on and logged back in to child account.

Chose same game, and this time it didn't ask for permission.

Excellent work microsoft support team!!! Problem Solved. I recommend chatting with a rep if you have the same problem. See if these steps help.

I'll give this a try. The issue I'm having is one of my child accounts no longer asks for the adult to allow permissions; it only ask for the password/pass key assigned to the child's acct. So I can't grant permissions, it only asks for the password and
pass key every time. Thanks for posting this; let's see if it solves my dilemma.

Adding always allowed apps to my childs account on xbox one

    Hello ScottPaul1!

Thanks for reaching out to Xbox forums support.

Below I'll provide you with a direct link on how to always Allow your child to Use certain apps.

Grant an exception to your child’s content limits on Xbox One

If you want to give your child permission to view content that’s rated higher than the child account settings for your family, you don’t need to change all of the settings to give access to a specific item.

Any adult in the family can grant exceptions to the content limits currently in the child account settings for your family. You have two options in granting exceptions:

    • Always – This option grants a permanent exception that can’t be revoked.
    • Just this once – This option is a one-time-only exception. It expires as soon as the child signs out of the console.
Note To grant the "always" exception, you need to have an Xbox account on the console. If your account is not on the console, you can only provide a temporary ("just this once") exception for the current session.

How to grant an exception to content limits

Note If you’re allowing your child to buy the game or video to which you’re granting an exception, the content must be purchased, downloaded, and installed before you can give permission to use it.

    1. Have your child sign in to their account on the Xbox One console.
    2. Locate the content you want to allow your child to access.
    3. On the Choose who will give permission screen, select the account of the adult family member who's providing permission.
    4. Enter the adult’s account email address and password, or the console’s passkey.
    5. Select either Always or Just this once (or only
Just this once if your account is not on the console).
After you give permission for your child to use this content, they can open the content immediately.

I hope this helps! Let us know!

Please see this page for how to grant an exception for a child account to play games that the account can not normally play:

(Please note that changing the birth date on the Microsoft account will not change the birth date of the xbox account - that's permanent.)

Xbox One X Content restriction clarification?

Can someone please clarify the parental control exception rule to me on a child's account?
If my child's account is set to 15, he cannot play Red Dead Redemption 2 as its rated 18 due to the parental control I have set. As a parent if I click ALWAYS does that automatically lift his account
rating to 18 and allow him to play any 18 rated game or only ALWAYS for that one game?
Does that create a database of games that he is allowed to play by me the parent or just basically lifts the rating to 18? If it just lifts the overall content access to 18 rated I am unsure then
why is that a permanent change that cannot be revoked.

Child AccountSignon Issue on Meta Quest 3 Xbox App

Hello __RK__, my name is Vanessa, I'm happy to help you today.

By researching your problem, I found information that may be useful to solve your problem.

If you want to give a child permission to view content with a rating higher than what is set in your family's child account settings, you don't have to change all the settings to grant them access to specific content.

Any adult in your household can grant exceptions to the content limits currently set in the account settings of a minor in your household. You have two options for granting exceptions:

Always: This option grants a permanent exception that cannot be revoked.

Just this once: This option allows an exception for a single occasion. It expires when the child logs out of the console.

Note: To grant the "always" exception, you must have an Xbox account on the console. If your account is not in the console, you can only provide a temporary exception ("just this once") for the current session.

How to grant an exception to content limits:

Follow these steps to grant permanent or temporary exceptions to content limits on Xbox for a minor.

Sign in with your account in the console.

Ask the child to log into her account.

Find the content you want your child to have access to.

On the Choose who will give permission screen, select your account.

Enter your account email address and password or console PIN.

Select Always or Just this once (or Just this once if your account is not on the console).

After granting permission to the minor to use this content, he or she will be able to open it immediately.
