XBOX One external usb 3 hard drive not powering up after Oct 2018 update

After the October 2018 update to my XBOX One Console, my external usb 3 hard disk(where I have lots of games installed to) is not powering up from a soft power-on with the controller. I have to then power the console right off and back on again, to get
the hard disk to work again. This happens every time I power off the console with the controller.

    :)

    External hard drive malfunction

Is your console an Xbox 360 or Xbox One ?

Double check if the external hard drive is actually being detected, sometimes the USB connection might be loose. If the external hard drive is not detected, turn off the console

and then double check the USB connector is firmly plugged in, then turn console back on and see if external hard drive appears.

Also another thing to check... some brands of external hard drive have a power light when turned on. Check if the power light is on.

What is the most affordable external hard drive for X1?

Definitely going to get Witcher 3: Complete Edition and a external hard drive at Best Buy on Thursday. I have a question to ask so which brand has the most valuable external hard drive for Xbox One: Stargate or WD? If not, then what's the best option to buy? Thanks.

The physical copies of the games will work while the save point is on the external hard drive and X1 is connected, am I correct?

XBOX One external usb 3 hard drive not powering up after Oct 2018 update

Try performing a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely. Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes. Plug the power cord back in and restart
    the console.

I have a similar issue, i managed to resolve the power issue and now stuck with "this hard drive cannot be used as the signal is weak" this all happened after the latest update, using 2TB WD Passport drive, the hdd is fine, and works like a charm on pc
and ps4 so i give up with Microsoft.

Can't play video from external usb drive. [Error Code: 0xc00d11cd (0x80070001)]

    Hi there ZombieOrbit44

This can be a bit tricky I think this might need to be transfered to pc be played it, might of been the update that changed things but for the 0X80070001 << this normally what appears when something fails to load from external hard drive. There is some
fixes for this But of course it depends on the device so the following questions are important to trying to resolve it.

Is the external hard drive Self powered ( plugged into an outlet) or Powered from the console?,

There is sometimes issues with size and power for transferring when it passes 4tb on xbox one s/x if powered from console only depending on what else is plugged into the xbox. This means sometimes files can appear and work one day and unable to be detect
the hard drive the next due to how much power is needed for the devices plugged in.

Normal fixes when encountering error 0X80070001 which I have encountered so this is what i personally do when this error appears.

1.Check the cables make sure there the external hard drive is only device on the console USB wise.

2, Unplug the external usb connector then
    power cycle console
then place external usb back in when console is running and for it to be detected.

    3. After hard drive is detected wait a few minutes (3-5) to make sure files are loading and go try to load them after the time has passed.
