Xbox One External Hard Drive Question

I have a 500GB Xbox One, so you can imagine im short or space for games. so i was looking at getting a
Toshiba HDTB330EK3CA 3 TB 2.5-Inch USB 3.0 Canvio Basics External HDD
    (URL at the bottom).

Firstly: is it compatable with an Xbox One?

Secondly: if it is, how do i connect the two?

Xbox one External Hard Drive Question

So I add a External Hard Drive to my xbox 1 it is a Toshiba 1TB Automatic Backup Portable Hard Drive and I installed so games to it and they will freeze and make my Xbox 1 blackscreen when trying to play them from the external hdd but if I move them to the internal hdd the games will work just fine, I thought that all 3.0 usb hard drives are compatible with xbox 1 as long as they were 256gb and usb 3.0? I have tryed all 3 usb ports on the x1 and I have also even tryed a y-cable and still get the same problems. Is there a way to fix to this or will i have to get another external hdd?

  5. I have read that but it doesn't answer my question. I wanted to know will everything boot up from the faster external HDD (Dashboard, as well as games) or just games and other content? What I'm saying is will Xbox just use the external and wont use the internal
at all for anything to slow it down?

no..the operating system stays on internal only...and the system will use both the internal for OS and games/apps on external if you prefer. I just use my external 2TB as a backup of all games and keep the main games I play on the internal..seems to work.

The OS stays on the internal HDD. You can set the Xbox One to install games to the external storage device by default. You can also move all your stuff over to the external drive.
