I have been wondering about this. I haven't bought mine yet because I'm not sure which option is the best and haven't heard any specifics or recommendations from Microsoft. Has anyone done tests with 5400 rpm hdds vs 7200 rpms? I've been mainly looking at
the WD passports and mydrives but aren't sure if its going to be bad for my XB1 if the hdd takes power directly from the console, as opposed to having a dedicated A/C adapter to the wall. Has anyone tried any of these options yet?

    :)

Also, can anyone tell me if the external speeds are faster/slower than the internal hdd? I'm unsure of how well the transfer speed on USB 3.0 will be.

  6. I was wondering the same thing as well, I am not very familiar wit external HDDs .

But I was looking for an 8tb because I believe that's the largest the X1 supports. When I look up 8tb externals on amazon, it keeps giving me cloud devices that are quite expensive. So I was wondering if I could get a recommendation for a External HDD. Keep
in mind I want something large because my x360 collection is over 150 games plus all the DLC, so I need something large.

6 TB? Why would anyone need that much space? Unless you're planning on going all digital with tons of games. My girlfriend bought a 2 TB one from Amazon for 90 bucks. Now I don't know about paying 300 for a 6 TB HD lol. I wouldn't need that much space to
    begin with.

I have a 4TB Seagate external with an A/C adapter and store all my digital games on it. I don't have any problems with it.

  10. Hello everyone Xbox One External Options :)

I only have Forza Motorsport 5 and if I recall correctly, I still have like 325 GBs of space left in my HDD.

Do you guys think that it will get allmost full after I get Sunset Overdrive, Halo Master Chief Collection, and Dragon Age Inquisition?

Thank you very much for your assistance regarding this matter, I really appreciate it Xbox One External Options :)

Have a nice day or afternoon or night everyone Xbox One External Options :)

  11. @DOAX3, it me be pretty full. got to assume that Sunset Overdrive will probably be at least 20GB, Halo collect around 10GB. IMO, dragon age will be at least 20 - 25GB. Then add all the other games you are going to get and it will get full quickly.

  12. Hello "Major Wrekus" Xbox One External Options :)

First & foremost, thank you very much for your feedback regarding this matter, I really appreciate it Xbox One External Options :)

I will be skipping a lot of games because I won't have time to play them all, but out of all the games that I listed in my post, I fully expect Dragon Age Inquisition to take up a lot of HDD space.

The X1 Internal HDD is SATA II 5400rpm drive.

USB 3.0 after latency and overhead has about 3.2Gbps.

    SATAII has 3.0Gbps of bandwidth.

SATAIII has a 6.0Gbs of bandwidth.

When connected to a USB 3.0 /or directly connected to a SATA II cable (like X1 internal drive) in real world test a 5400rpm spindle drive read/write rate is around 60 - 80 MB/s and a 7200rpm is around 90 MB/s to 100 MB/s. There is only a slight difference
when it comes to load time.

To take full advantage of the USB 3.0 or SATA II cable and see a load times difference you have to go with SSD. It will be doing read/write speeds at 300MB/s.

Reading your post made my head spin LOL Xbox One External Options :)

I don't understand all of those technical terms and stuff, but I hope that I won't have to pick-up an External HDD soon.

Just remember SSD's are still some what pricy compared to a 5400 rpm and 7200rpm HDD. So it all depends wether or not you want fast load time. I had a SSD laying around and tested it on my X1 using a USB 3.0 to a SATA III SSD with enclosure and I can say
for sure that games that are on my SSD loads a lot faster.

But if you want just a large external hard drive to install all your games and apps for the X1 a USB 3.0 external HDD will work just fine.
