Xbox One External HDD Revert Back HELP!

Hi, I have just formatted my external HDD for use on xbox one. I only wanted to see if it works (which it does) but now I don't know how to revert it back to a normal external HDD. My computer
doesn't recognize it at all. Only instructions from Xbox is how to format it again for use with xbox one. Bit annoyed tbf. Am only interested in external hdd use to play my movies, tv shows etc on it not for a storage device. The console being as expensive
as it was it should of had sufficient space in the first place. Anyway thats a different issue. Can anyone help on this? Thanks

    :)

u think they will eventually add 3rd party HDD internal support

Saw some arguing about it, so figured I'd help people understand.

External HDDs that are a 2.5mm drive will not have an external power source.
External HDDs that are a 3.5mm drive will have an external power source. These drives also tend to be bigger.

But to go back on-topic, being able to plug in an external is a much better option than having to replace your hdd and reinstall everything. Would it be nice to have both? Sure, but the box wasn't made that way so it's not going to happen.

Done it! No thanks to anyone on the forums! Extremely unhelpful!

If anyone else is have the same problem here is a link to reformatting external hard drives. Likely your hard drive will show as unrecognized so just follow that section. Pretty simple in the end.

  5. Wish I'd of been on before your second post. Kind of defeats the purpose of an external HD for storing our vids, pics and movies huh? Yeah m$ locked us out of that feature a few years ago. Thankfully my PS3 still lets me use it as the flash drive it is intended
to be. But thank you for clarifying what I was afraid of. This was my last concern on picking up an X1 and it looks like I will now definitely NOT be making that purchase. Mainly on principle, but also because if I get one, the PS3 needs to go, and without
the functionality the PS3 allows me, I guess the XBone is boned for this household. Thank you very much reaper as you've saved me $500 I can now spend on games.

Wish I had seen this earlier. Truth be told very little people know about the Disk Management portion of Windows. Many a hard drive has been thrown away with people thinking it was garbage.

As for lack of storage? PS4 has the exact same issue. 500 gb's of hard drive space. They also did not have any ability to attach an external hard drive at launch either. Honestly cannot answer if they do yet. They have said that the ONE does not support
movies, music or pictures externally - YET. With the current hardware the ability to add different things is pretty huge.

Anyhow glad you figured out the hard drive issue.

    Be well

    Extremely unhelpful?

There was only about 30 minutes between your first and second post.

These are Xbox forums not pc forums and you can't expect a reply to what is technically a pc problem in under 30 minutes.

XGripper please start a new post with your problem to get better tailored help, as your problem is different to this and this question here is already answered.

Meanwhile try to setup your external drive in the settings / system / storage section. It may need to be configured there.

The operating system is always installed on the internal drive.

If your system freezes on boot please try booting without the external drive.

If the problem persists please open a new thread to get better tailored help on your problem.
