  1. Xbox One External HD ???

Hello all - posted a few times in a couple different threads about this issue but wanted to ask you all here.

I am current 360 owner on cusp of buying the One. Only thing holding back is the external HD thing - I own a Seagate 4TB Portable External hard drive and use it as a media device. It took some tinkering to get it to be seen by the 360 as a media device but
I eventually got it to work.

My question is will it work as a media device on the One? I know many of you use the external HD as extra storage for games as they are digital on the One. I intend to do the same in one of two ways - use my current HD as both a media drive and storage for
my games (if at all possible) or use a 2nd external HD as a storage device for my games as it appears 2TB+ now works perfectly from reading a few different posts.

Any help or advice here would be great!

    :)

    Xbox One External HD

Hello, Once an external HD is formatted to my Xbox One can instill use it for my PC? Or is my 3TB External HD a now permanent attachment for my Xbox One? Also this is a never been used before 3TB External HD. My Xbox One is saying there's only 2.7TB free.
Is that the limit or is there a problem? Thanks!

  3. External HD (WD My Passport) always on and than corrupted game installs - finally not detected anymore!

I have used an external HD (WD My Passport - 500gb) on my Xbox One for the last month. I am on instant on and noticed the external HD never turned off, even when console got turned off. A few days ago my system began to behave strangely and, after a simple
reboot, I noticed my external HD was not detected anymore. The Xbox also got suck at the green loading boot screen and only after many tries it turned on again (hours booting). The external HD showed up and, when I tried to boot a game, it gave me a corrupted
game install message (the game was on external). Straight afterwards the external HD was not recognized again.

I lost 300gb of downloads and am trying to fix the external HD on a windows PC (running a full erase). My Xbox One works normally without an external HD. Could the Xbox have ruined my external HD, as it never got turned off for a whole month? I read similar
problems in another xbox forum topic. Something to do with last update? How am I supposed to fit games in the small 500gb internal HD?

    Xbox One External HD ???

I'm not exactly sure what your asking but I just bought a 3tb external a few days ago. Plugged it in and the Xbox one recognised it instantly and away I went. It works flawlessly.

  5. Did you use it to store games and it works flawlessly or did you use it to play media and it worked flawlessly - that is my question.

Many people use it to store games but I am more concerned about using it as a media drive.

Also, if you do use it to store games are you still able to access media on the device? If you were to place a media file on the hard drive from your PC would you be able to access that file on the Xbox One?

Oh ok. I'm not sure about that one. I only bought it for games so I can't help you there.

I'm pretty sure that it formats the whole drive for X1 format only. I don't think you can partition the drive.

So you will have one for games and one for your media.

  9. Thanks guys, very helpful!

@cheesyhunter1 the 2nd drive for your movies... do you know if if it will work on FAT32 format? Also @RippenHarra mentioned above that the drive is automatically formated - how did you get your 2nd drive to not be formatted by the Xbox One in order to keep
    all your movies on there?

  10. Yeah works in fat32 but I have lots of 3d movies at over 12gig each so I cant save them on fat32 as it has a 4gig max file size

  12. DUDE! You are awesome! So you plugged a 3TB drive in with media already on it and it was virtually plug and play?

Sorry for not clarifying that it doesn't auto format the drive on plug in. Thanks Cheesy for clearing that up.

My Ext. Hard Drive shuts my XBONE off/crashes

    Hi AyeYaya,

It sounds that the external HD may have gotten corrupted causing the Xbox One to shutdown since you are able to use the console fine without the external HD plugged in.

Do you happen to have another external HD that meets the requirements for testing purposes? Or would you happen to be able to try that HD on another Xbox?

You may need to delete what you have on there, re-format the HD for the Xbox One, and then download what you had on there again.

    Hhd

    Hi The king of riders

Is the HD external or internal?

If it's an external hard drive used on one xbox one, it will work perfectly on another xbox

why can't external devices be used as a secondary memory device

USB devices aren't supported in the emulator

You will have toove your xbox one games unto the external hd and then use the internal hd for xbox one
