    XBOX ONE external HD sleeping during use.


    I have a Fantom Drive Gforce 3 USB 3.0 drive connected to my main Family XBOX. When pausing a game and going to watch TV or to browse the internet for a long period of time, the External Drive is spinning down. Sometimes when this happens, I will have
    to restart the game because the drive powered down and will not resume the game. The FANTOM Drive is external powered and it probably senses that since no data is going back and forth, it is spinning down. There needs to be an option to disable this when
    the XBOX is on or just to keep all external drives awake.

    It has no problems when turning of the XBOX off and going into instant on mode. It will also come on remotely when installing purchases or updates when its off...(instant on mode).

    It just needs to stop powering down while actually using the XBOX.

    I have a WD passport on another xbox that does not do this but, It is powered usb only.

    Hello, Once an external HD is formatted to my Xbox One can instill use it for my PC? Or is my 3TB External HD a now permanent attachment for my Xbox One? Also this is a never been used before 3TB External HD. My Xbox One is saying there's only 2.7TB free.
    Is that the limit or is there a problem? Thanks!

    why can't external devices be used as a secondary memory device

    USB devices aren't supported in the emulator

    You will have toove your xbox one games unto the external hd and then use the internal hd for xbox one

    Is it safe to leave a seagate external hard drive plugged in all the time(Xbox One)?

    I always keep my external HDs plugged in. I believe it goes into a sleep mode because even though the light on the HD is still on, it is no longer spinning.

    If it's an external hard drive used on one xbox one, it will work perfectly on another xbox

    Hi AyeYaya,

    It sounds that the external HD may have gotten corrupted causing the Xbox One to shutdown since you are able to use the console fine without the external HD plugged in.

    Do you happen to have another external HD that meets the requirements for testing purposes? Or would you happen to be able to try that HD on another Xbox?

    You may need to delete what you have on there, re-format the HD for the Xbox One, and then download what you had on there again.

    EL GIESTAS--A SSD might be faster than an external HD but the external ones are easier to install. You just plug and play and they are relatively cheap these days. I use a 2TB Seagate external HD for my Xbox 360 and an 8 TB Seagate external HD for my Xbox
    One and have had no problems with either. You just plug them in, let your system reformat them to use on your system of choice and 20 seconds or so later you can start saying games, apps and anything else you want to them.

    And to echo Genesis1953, there's still no way to open your Xbox One to install a new HD without voiding your warranty.
