    Xbox One External Hard drive Issues


    Hey, peeps! I recently got an external hard drive for my Xbox One so I could backup my screenshots and captures. I got a Seagate Xbox External Hard drive (the green one) second-hand, and it was formatted for games and apps. Since I don't need that, I formatted it for media and plugged it into my Xbox...only for it to say that I need to format it for NTFS. Even though I personally use a Mac, I have access to a Windows PC (running on Windows 10) and used it to format it to NTFS. I plugged it into my console again, tried to set it to backup my captures, and got the same error message that requires me to set the hard drive to NTFS. I have tried NTFS and ExFat, looked up every single tutorial and help page, and nothing has helped.

    Does anyone have any ideas? I'm beyond my wit's end and am quite ready to forget the whole hard drive and just try backing everything up to OneDrive...which has been failing to accept any captures for the past month despite my attempts (and there is plenty of space--it just decided to fail every single upload past a certain point in my captures).

    Hi there,

    Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry to hear that the issue is persistent on the External Hard Drive.

    Have you tried connecting the hard drive to a PC?

    Does the PC recognize the external hard drive?

    Does the external hard drive meet the specifications for the Xbox One?

    If the problem persists, I recommend to try a different external hard drive on the Xbox if possible. One thing we want to make sure, Are the ports on the Xbox One functioning?

    Are you running it off of the hard drive on the Xbox One or an external one? If you are playing off of the internal drive on the Xbox One then you may want to get an external for it because that is a known issue as far as the Xbox One hard drive and this
    game.

    Having the same issues. Could be something to do with the external hard drive maybe, not had time to troubleshoot yet though.

    Some ideas to try maybe?

    1. Make the Xbox One drive the primary drive, while the external drive is still plugged in

    2. Try with the external hard drive unplugged

    No idea if this will make a difference, but this issue only started for me since I got an external drive. Unless others are having the same issue with no external hard drive?

    I understand you are experiencing an issue with your external hard drive's games not showing up on your Xbox One. You may want to try plugging in your external hard drive to another USB port on your console. Also, check out this article for troubleshooting
