Xbox One External Hard Drive Issue

My external hard drive that I have connected to my xbox one has been working fine for years until a few weeks ago. I can still play all my games off of it but I can no longer install any games onto it or move any games over to it from the internal drive
like I could before. It shows up when I go to the settings and then storage and is set to my default install location but when I go to 'My Games and Apps' in the bottom left it says 97% used of all storage when I have 2TB free on my external hard drive that
is not showing up. My games and Apps only shows the internal hard drive. I read on a xbox one forum that someone had this issue so they reformatted the external drive and they had to reinstall all their games again but it worked fine after that. I tried
that and it still doesn't work but now i get spend hours or days reinstalling all my games again once it works.

Hard Drive Storage Limit

if adverts for "compatible" external hard drives are any indication it would seem the external storage patch should be coming some time soon although I note it wont be in the first patch released.

Xbox one External Hard Drive Question

I bought the Western Digital 4TB external hard drive - the one recommended in the IGN article, and I've never had any issue with it.

For anyone who's interested, this is the one I am talking about.

Sounds like the HDD is on its way out, if you can see the HDD in the xbox you could get a replacement and transfer them across before it dies completely.

If not then, its just like any other HDD fail, when it goes it goes but you can transfer to another HDD if you put another HDD in and copy the game over.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry to hear that the issue is persistent on the External Hard Drive.

Have you tried connecting the hard drive to a PC?

Does the PC recognize the external hard drive?

Does the external hard drive meet the specifications for the Xbox One?

If the problem persists, I recommend to try a different external hard drive on the Xbox if possible. One thing we want to make sure, Are the ports on the Xbox One functioning?

Are you running it off of the hard drive on the Xbox One or an external one? If you are playing off of the internal drive on the Xbox One then you may want to get an external for it because that is a known issue as far as the Xbox One hard drive and this
game.

Having the same issues. Could be something to do with the external hard drive maybe, not had time to troubleshoot yet though.

Some ideas to try maybe?

1. Make the Xbox One drive the primary drive, while the external drive is still plugged in

2. Try with the external hard drive unplugged

No idea if this will make a difference, but this issue only started for me since I got an external drive. Unless others are having the same issue with no external hard drive?

I understand you are experiencing an issue with your external hard drive's games not showing up on your Xbox One. You may want to try plugging in your external hard drive to another USB port on your console. Also, check out this article for troubleshooting
