    Xbox One External Hard Drive Error


    My Xbox One will absolutely not boot past the Xbox One screen Green Screen anytime I have my external HDD plugged in. I've let it sit for over 15 minutes at times, and it will eventually go to a black screen, but I will not have a dashboard or anything.
    The drive meets all requirements and I have been saving my games on them for about a year now. Yet when I unplug the HDD, the system boots fine. I was wondering if this was an issue anybody else may have seen. Thanks for any and all help!

    Yeah I am wondering about this to I have had this issue happen to me a few times but I have to reformat my external hdd every time and redownload my games any help would be great. Xbox One External Hard Drive Error :(

    Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. We need a little more information to ensure that we provide the correct solution. Are you attempting to utilize an external hard drive with the Xbox One? Is the console able to detect the external hard drive?
    Does an error message appear when you connect the external hard drive? We have a support article which provides

    Hi there,

    Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry to hear that the issue is persistent on the External Hard Drive.

    Have you tried connecting the hard drive to a PC?

    Does the PC recognize the external hard drive?

    Does the external hard drive meet the specifications for the Xbox One?

    If the problem persists, I recommend to try a different external hard drive on the Xbox if possible. One thing we want to make sure, Are the ports on the Xbox One functioning?

    External hard drive won't install games

    There are no error codes when it says installation stopped. The hard drive meets the criteria to be used as an external hard drice. I have not usd the hard drive on any other consoles as I only have 1 xbox one.

    As an idea for xbox one hard drives because they are internal and not external try plugging in an external drive to save or transfer all important games to external hard drive and leave not so important games onto internal drive
    that way you can take them anywhere and not have hard drive failures with xbox one.
