    Xbox One/External Hard Drive Error


    i have been having an issue with my Xbox one/External hard drive it begins with me not being able to load up any games (on both the internal and external hard drive) as it says they are taking too long to load. I then restart my console but it gets stuck
    on the green xbox one loading screen, after it being on this screen for a while i decided to start unplugging anything connected. As soon as i unplugged the external hard drive the xbox one loaded up, i plugged the external hard drive back in but it was not
    recognized by the console, i tried plugging into my pc but was not picked up on there also, so assumed the issue was with the external hard drive. i purchased a new one about a week ago and it has been fine, but today the same thing happened, fortunately this
    time i was able to reformat the drive on my PC but lost all the games installed on it. Has anyone else come across this issue? if so has anyone found a fix/ way around completely reformatting the drive?

    Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. We need a little more information to ensure that we provide the correct solution. Are you attempting to utilize an external hard drive with the Xbox One? Is the console able to detect the external hard drive?
    Does an error message appear when you connect the external hard drive? We have a support article which provides

    troubleshooting for external storage devices on Xbox One    . Be sure to let us know the results!

    Hi there,

    Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry to hear that the issue is persistent on the External Hard Drive.

    Have you tried connecting the hard drive to a PC?

    Does the PC recognize the external hard drive?

    Does the external hard drive meet the specifications for the Xbox One?

    If the problem persists, I recommend to try a different external hard drive on the Xbox if possible. One thing we want to make sure, Are the ports on the Xbox One functioning?

    External hard drive won't install games

    There are no error codes when it says installation stopped. The hard drive meets the criteria to be used as an external hard drice. I have not usd the hard drive on any other consoles as I only have 1 xbox one.

    As an idea for xbox one hard drives because they are internal and not external try plugging in an external drive to save or transfer all important games to external hard drive and leave not so important games onto internal drive
    that way you can take them anywhere and not have hard drive failures with xbox one.
