XBOX ONE External Drive Strange Issue

Hi everyone I have an XBOX ONE external drive question hope it can be answered here..I have a Seagate expansion 4TB hard drive, when I turn OFF my XBOX ONE(I turn it always completely off) the external drive would always turn off and stay off til I turned
it back on again..I notice at night, sometimes it will be around 4am between 7am, the external drive will just turn on, I will hear it humming from the other room and I can hear it turn on, then a few seconds later turn off, then a few minutes later it does
the same thing again, now its off..its so weird because my wireless router is off at the time so what the heck is it doing? This all started with the new update that came out a few weeks ago I think this is somehow connected to that because I Never had this
problem til the update came out, a hard drive shouldn't just randomly turn on and off for no reason, especially when there is no internet connection to actually receive anything its just strange

External Hard Drive Strange Issue

When I connect my external hard drive to my Xbox one my Xbox recognizes that it is plugged in but it does not actually work. I know it is recognized because one of the notifications appear that let you know your device is ready to start. Much like with my
headset which a notification appears and says "Headset Assigned" the only weird thing about the notification for my external hard drive is that there is no text in the box it is just white until the text "Ready to Start" appears inside it. Note this is a
new issue I've used to external hard drive before multiple times and when it used to be recognized the notification would say "External Hard Drive Ready" but as of late my Xbox has not been doing that. Any help or advice would be great thanks

 

External Hard Drive Strange Issue

Sorry to hear this. I've had this same issue recently here and there. Try switching which port you're plugging it in to. If that doesn't work then power cycle the console by holding the power button on it for 10 seconds until it shuts down then unplug
everything from it and let it sit for 5 minutes.

It worked for me so hopefully will work for you as well.

 

Does this also happens when you turn off the Xbox by pressing the power button for about 10 seconds ?

 

Right now my XBOX ONE is set to "Instant on" that is checked off..and everything else is checked off as well, such as downloading updates automatically and about the hard drive turned off when the xbox one is turned off, that is also checked..I always turn
off the console by pressing the xbox controller power button, and it asks me if I want to turn off the console

I notice the external drive turn ON in the middle of the night, sometimes around 4am in the morning, I will hear the humming sound, then a clicking sound, Im in the other room so I can hear it, it sounds like its trying to find something..my wireless router
is turned OFF at the time maybe its trying to find something Im not sure, it will continue to do that for a few hours then stop. Right now my xbox one is turned off and the external drive is also off..the power brick has always been white, never orange, but
I noticed this issue after the april update so not sure what I should do. I was talking to someone in microsoft online chat and he said to uncheck instant on and that this issue would stop but not sure if I should do that
