  1. Xbox one external drive shutdown/power save feature

I had a 4tb drive die on my recently so I got a replacement and thought to look for an option to turn of the drive with the console to extend it’s life span but pretty much every option you have still has the drive running in the background.

In the settings though there is a option called full shutdown that does in fact do what I want it to do but making it so you have to go all the way to settings to shut down the console properly is a bit of a pain so i’d like to give some feedback for a future
    update!

Microsoft could you please integrate the power save features to the quick shutdown window when holding the middle button for easier managment and acess to the full shutdown mode!!!?

Alternatively let people map out quick acess to features or content with the middle button so for example: pressing start on full shutdown in power settings and set it manualy to appear with the other power options when holding the middle button.

If you could integrate one or both of those features in the future that would be great

    :)

Xbox One X - USB-powered external drive always on!

    Hi there,

Ok read a ton of similar threads but most official microsoft answers thus far seem to either side-step or avoid answering some not quite so direct questions, so I thought I'd ask a bullet proof question....

    Console: XBox One X

External Drive: Startech S251BMU313 USB 3.1 external 2.5" enclosure containing a Seagate 1TB hybrid ST1000LX015 drive.

Power settings: set to Full Shutdown.

I've even gone into setting to force a full-shutdown to force this.

Problem..... The external drive NEVER turns off, it's always on, always spinning DESPITE system being set to full off.

No matter what I do I have to physically disconnect the drive from the Xbox in order to switch it off.

I work in the IT field and a tiny little 2.5" consumer hard drive is NOT suitable for an "always-on" environment, this isn't a hardened industrial-use drive like a Seagate IronWolf, it's domestic.

Please tell me what setting I need to change to power off this USB-powered external drive.

Before you say it.... I am NOT using power-saving mode, I have tried this which enables the "provide power to external drives" option and BOTH still leave the drive powered up. I'm using the FULL Shutdown option and still the external drive is foeced to
    spin 24/7.
Yes, since you have set up the power settings to keep the storage on, it's because you have everything up-to-date whenever you turn on the console when this turns off so everything should be fine and it should go set to turn off USB.

Xbox HDD Spinning Up every 4 minutes

    [...]

-Change from instant on mode to power save mode, which works, but then i cant keep my games up-to-date when xbox is off.

    [...]
As additional info: also if you completely shutdown the external drive and your game are saved there you can't update them when your console is off

External hard drive don't turn off

Well it worked to turn it off twice, but after that the external hard drive still seems to have power. It's like a bug with the power options. Because even with a "Complete Shutdown" the external hard drive remained on. The power cycle runs once or twice and then it starts again. It all seems a bit random. Will the next update fix the problem?

XBOX One external hard drive keeps spinning up and down every minute

When I tried the other USB drive, I just used the cables that it had with it, so yes, different USB cable and different drive

One drive powered by external power adapter (the 3.5" Seagate)

The other drive powered via USB (the 2.5" Hitachi)

Both exhibit this symptom on two different XBOX's and the settings for leaving the USB powered up or not when shutdown makes no difference and the setting for keeping games/apps updated toggled makes no difference.

    It's very vexing this issue!

External harddrive for media not recognised by Xbox one

Ok, so I just talked with support and was able to get it recognized again. After the update the Xbox turned on the feature where it turns off the External Drive when the system powers down. I don't know if the issue is that maybe the Xbox was not turning
it back on, but I turned OFF that feature so that the Xbox One would not turn off external drive. I then disconnected and powered down the external drive, then plugged it back in and it is now being recognized. Maybe some of you should try this and let me
    know what you get.
