  1. Xbox One Energy-Inefficient?

    Okay, so I just read
    this entertaining article
over on IGN about how an environmental group is unhappy with the Xbox One's energy-saving mode, specifically, with how it is negatively worded, in order to get new users to choose the instant-on mode instead. Now I understand everyone's
got their preference for which mode they should choose, but what intrigued me the most about this article was the point it made towards the very end - why not have the console check for updates every hour and then go back to energy-saving mode? This, I think,
would be more efficient overall and would make it even easier on us as consumers because we wouldn't have to worry about choosing which mode we wanted because we'd already effectively be getting the best of both worlds. What's your take on this article?

    :)

    Xbox One Energy-Inefficient?

I unplug mine after every single use. I put it away so the kids don't go near it. That's the most energy efficient.

It's just a bunch of numbers that I shouldn't be worried about. I got Xbox 1 to have fun, not study it's electrical consumption. If it affects our electric bill, I'm told that (which it hasn't even when I stay up late weekend nights). I always switch my
console off at the wall before going to bed and when I'm out of the house. Xbox 1 uses DDR3 RAM which is less power hungry than GDDR5 RAM. It also has a Jaguar APU.

"Jaguar, or Family 16h, is the codename for a low-power SoC microarchitecture designed by AMD" - Jaguar, Wikipedia.

I even don't know which is which but when I turn it off via the dashboard, when I turn it on, it reaches the sign in screen super fast rather than a cold boot which shows a green screen with Xbox 1. I'm sure I haven't changed these kind of settings since
I got the console day 1. Just do what your parents have told you to do, turn it off (at the wall) when it's not your free time. Just because Xbox may be energy efficient just like a LED Full HDTV doesn't mean you should just have it on standby 24/7. Turning
it off at the wall is one sure way to make sure no power is going to it. If you ask me, I think it's ENERGY EFFICIENT as it uses LED/LCD lights (touch sensitive power button), has DDR3 RAM which is less power hungry than GDDR5 RAM, and a Jaguar APU.

When I was at Taronga Zoo in Sydney during the summer holidays (which for Australia and NZ, is December/January) at the Bird Show which overlooks the beautiful view of the harbour and Sydney CBD, the zoo keeper said "simple things like turning off a light
when we're not using it, and putting rubbish in the bin instead of accidentally dropping it, don't just leave it there". I'm sure Microsoft has their own environmental policies too. They commented in the video about having to go deep inside the settings on
the console, which may mean Microsoft may need to refine their Windows 8 UI on Xbox 1. Xbox 360 has had it's UI refined several times since I joined late 2010.

It also depends on how YOU use the console. If you leave it on 24/7 without turning it off at the wall when your away from it, or if you play on it 24/7 (lol, who does this unless it's the school holidays or you're retired or something), then it's not the
hardware that's no being "green", it's the user aka YOU who is not being "green".

Brand.. is it safe to unplug it every day like that? I know some electronic devices can be ruined if you do. The constant on/off with juice is sometimes bad for the PSU... not sure how the XB feels about it.. I can see why you do tho...

    Xbox One Energy-Inefficient?

Just turn it off at the wall is enough, but some strict parents may want to do the above, just handle it with care. Companies may make energy efficient hardware as reasonably possible like energy efficient light bulbs which last far longer than old fashioned
light bulbs and use less power. I'm sure Microsoft has good environmental policies. They also programmed the Xbox 360 to automatically shutdown after like an hour of inactivity like idling in a game or on the dashboard. They could reprogram/update the operating
system on Xbox 1. I viewed the image geek and I think they showed it like this to make it simple. If I were in the development team, I would have wrote it like that too.

Even though products may strive to be energy efficient, they still consumer power, and it is the responsibility of the user, (not the machine which it's makers have tried to make energy efficient), on how much power goes to it.

I see no difference in my electricity bill since adding the Xbox One to my entertainment stand. And 2 others as well! I have my original Xbox hooked up, my Xbox 360 and Xbox One. My bill has stayed the same! I think this is flat out crap. However,
the last point would be effective perhaps. But to call the system an energy hog, I haven't noticed. I asked my friends as well and there E bills are pretty much the same.

If you ask me, this is just another group of fanatics trying to shed even more negative light on Xbox One. Frankly, I am getting tired of it.

I unpl;ug my console when its not in use, i see no reason to leave it on and consume energy/be a potential fire risk.

    Same with all my electronics.

relax, MS will release a X1 slim that will reduce it's power consumption, or add more options to better control of the different power stages, i don't believe that MS is willing to take another backlash from their customers just to please some whiny environmentalist.

As I said in another thread. I am growing increasingly irritated with all of the negativity regarding Xbox One.

There has been total deforestation in my local area since I put my One into insta on mode. On the plus side there is now a massive increase in car parking space. Every cloud has a silver lining.
