Xbox One Elite Controller Service Issues

Just got off the phone with Xbox service center about my 6 month old elite controller's left joy stick not working when pressed to the right. I was told i was out of luck and time not to mention $150. There is nothing they will do for me since the elite
controller comes with only a 90 day warranty. The lesson to be learned is DO NOT buy Microsoft they will not stand behind their products. I still have a 10 year old PS3 and controller that works like new. Should have got a PS4 wouldn't be having these issues!

Hey there!

Make sure you have your console registered on the
Online Service Center as well. You can't register an accessory without having the console on there too. Once you do that, you should be able to request a repair/replacement with no issues.

I think a 90 day warranty is fair.

Do you expect a car company to replace your tires when they wear out?

Pro Tip: PS4 controllers wear out too if you play like a Spaz.

 

I have had this issue with controllers, not just MS ones, and generally the warranty is not very long. Seems about right. Then again, the elite is $150 and should last longer and have a longer warranty I would think.

I have replaced the sticks on controllers before. Most recently 360 and PS3. Have not had to do that on any One or PS4 yet. I usually had the sticks from other broken controllers I could use. But eBay is a spot that you can find them. I picked one up
there once when I was out. Not that hard to remove the old stick and put them on if you are so inclined. Can make a controller work like new.

 

Considering the cheap china made stock controller that sales for $60 comes with the same 90 day warranty you would think a controller that was said to be made with top of the line materials and cost almost 3 times the price to have a longer warranty. And
yes if i buy 75,000 mile tires at $250 each and they wear out in before i expect them to not tell me oh they come with the same mile warranty as the 25,000 mile $100 tires.

 

Please. The Elite was made in China as well.

And sticking with the tire analogy, If you don't take care of your tires (like rotate at regular intervals) that warranty is null and void.

I'm sorry, but trying to compare a controller breaking to car tires wearing out is beyond ridiculous. Car tires are expected to be replaced after use. If you buy them from a reputable dealer, they'll even knock off some of the cost if they don't last the
full warranty period.

You don't expect to have to replace a controller after a few months. Your analogy is about as valid as comparing apples to bricks.

OP - If MS won't help, then your next best bet might be to sell the thing on eBay for parts or repair. Even a broken Elite should sell for at least $50.

 

I agree that the warranty is not what I personally think it should be considering the cost of the controller. Especially, as you pointed out, the regular controller comes with a 90 day warranty. MS probably should include at least a 6 month warranty. I
guess the reason they do not is that controllers and things like that get abused a lot more and tend to get damages more often.

The problem with the China argument is that it is not just MS as most do it. And no matter where they have them assembled they will use those same parts. So the parts would still be cheap if they already are.

 

That's a bummer that you're Elite controller broke I've heard it's a great controller.

About getting a PS4 instead I will tell you I just replaced a DS4 controller because it quit functioning properly. It happen sometimes , things quit working all the time.

 

I can't imagine if it was made in USA or Europe....$ 500 for a controller,$3000 for a console....With the same warranty and probably the same issues.
