Xbox one elite controller rubber grips coming off

You need to contact Xbox Support about this. Please make a digital copy of your receipt showing your proof of purchase. They may require you send it to them.

    Next, the bad news.

    - All Xbox Accessories just have a 90 day warranty, if you're in the states. It can be up to a year in other countries.

    - There will be no money back or lifetime guarantee

    The good news (ish)

    - If Xbox Support can help, they will usually setup an exchange. Meaning they'd create a repair order but you'll have to pay for shipping your controllers back to the repair center and then they will send you replacements.

    - Xbox Support is there to help if they can. I know you've got $300 into these controller, I'd be upset too. Try not to take it out on them

If you get the exchange option, make sure you remove all the little items that you can, like paddles, thumb stick tips, battery cover. Don't send that stuff back!

Also, very important, if you get an exchange option for each controller. Each controller has to have it's own "tracking number" You have to send them separately. If you send both together in one shipment, you'll only get one back.

You can contact Xbox Support here -

If you're in the states you can call them at 800-469-9269

  3. I have had the same problem. I paid for the supposedly best controller Microsoft makes only to habe the rubber grips come off a few months after I bought it. I do NOT mistreat my controller in any way but the rubber has still come off. As for trying to glue
them back on, the rubber seems to have elongated (sp?) some how as well and I cannot glue them back on without taking scissors to them so I have opted to wait and just use the standard controller that came with my Xbox One. I am hope that either Microsoft
will recall and fix this problem for there faithful customers or someone will start a class action suit against them. If my standard controller breaks before that, I guess it will be time to switch to the Sony platform instead and see if they will treat there
would like to have me as a customer instead.

  4. Xbox one elite controller rubber grips coming off

I have had mine since October 2016. The grips just started to come off in January. I'm on the console at least 10 hours a day. I would say it lasted very well, and Xbox assisted in getting a new one.

  5. Same. I'm a UK owner of the controller and two out of the four rubber grips have fallen off with a third about to. Is there anyone we can report this too? I don't even play on my xbox very much!

If you live in Australia and New Zealand, consumer legislation allows you to have a 12 month warranty on the controller (under your rights which Microsoft can't say no too). Standard minimum warranty for electronic devices is 12 months, not a mere 90 days.
I feel sorry for you Americans. 90 day warranty. NZ and Australia get special rights. And we deal with the retail store we got it from. We don't have to go to the manufacturer. Microsoft also has offices in NZ/AUS so they automatically fall under the jurisdiction
of these countries too. It's like if you go visit another country, you are bound by those countries laws while you are on their soil. Citizens are protected by whatever rights your country has.

A comment is the Elite controller is expensive, it's like at least 2x more than the normal Xbox One controller. And it fails before normal controller in terms of build quality?????? My advise is don't get unless you need it and don't get unless it's on sale.
There may be 3rd parties who make even better version controllers for Xbox which are more durable. As they have with Xbox 360. Consumer rights in NZ and Australia are a lot better than in the US.

Under NZ/Australian Law, consumer products are required to be durable and last a reasonable amount of time. If Americans had more stringent rights, I wouldn't have to read so many of these types of threads. However if you live in
the states, see if you can get an extended warranty for it, from wherever you shop from; instead of rocking off the 90 day manufacturer US warranty. You could get it serviced or deal with the manufacturer, but that can be a pain. Or you could do some DIY,
stick some glue or tape to try and piece it together. See if the place where you got it from, can help (eg. online store or physical store).

  8. Xbox one elite controller rubber grips coming off

Most of the controllers I've had have lasted ~1 year before they started having drift issues with the thumbsticks. I had my Elite controller for close to 2 years before it started having the peeling issue.

While it'd be nice if they did something to fix the problem, I don't see it happening if they haven't done anything by now. I can say that you can find standard Elite replacement grips on Amazon for about $10USD + shipping. There's a lot of times where I've
seen they have it listed as "Item unavailable", but I just watched for them to become available and grabbed a set. About 5 minutes of pry off the old, put on the new and My controller was back to its old self again.

I imagine that by the time I need another replacement grip, it'll probably be time for a whole new controller... just because they're "built better" doesn't mean they're going to last forever. If mine lasts as long after the first grip replacement before
it needs another, that's almost 4 years. For what this controller has done for my gaming, I'd say that's not too bad. While I agree the grips shouldn't come off that soon, I'll likely be getting another Elite when this one finally goes. I thought about a Scuf,
but from what I've heard they aren't any more reliable and they're just as costly.

    I have my eye on
    this
for my next Elite. Looks like it might work as a preventative measure.

That seems very unlikely as I literally called less than 3 days ago for this exact reason and the best they gave me was, "We can offer you 1 month of Xbox Live Gold to kind of suffice the money you lost". I said no thank you and have a nice day. $150, and
now I have 3/4 of the grips dangling while another is off completely. They are so warped the under buttons no longer work either so it's 'Eliteness' is restricted only to face buttons. Fantastic product 3/10.

  10. I am the exact same way. I own a "regular" xbox controller. My elite, which I do love, has the grips come off. Yes you can glue them back on, but I can no longer use the toggles because the grip is not EXACTLY in the right place. I did not realize this until
it was too late. So. yeah.

  11. People in my clan that have them, have the same problem.

    The main problems:

    Grips coming off

Left thumb stick not responding properly and/or coming loose

top on the thumb pad does not respond all the time

Moral of the story: Don't buy this overpriced piece of gimmick. If you live in NZ, Australia or the UK, Microsoft has no option to give you 12 months warranty under your governments consumer rights legislation. Feel sorry for the Americans. As Australia
puts it, consumers are entitled to "guarantees which cannot be excluded by any contract". Same for NZ.

My Xbox One controller is working fine. I don't need a gimmick such as the Elite controller cause judging by the durability reviews, the Elite has flopped. It's not worth the asking price at all. After all, it's about the games,
not the hardware. No need for an Elite controller.

    Elite controller grip fix

I have 2 elite controllers myself and out of warranty but both controllers have the grips and underside of the rubber coming off .

Question the new xbox 1 elite controller 2s are coming out in november here in the Uk but what proof do i have that the rubber is not going to start peeling of theses because if i order 2 that's £320 when the rubber starts coming off which isn't good at
all for the price i might as well be paying for 2 scuf controllers . Is xbox giving any of us elite 1 uses a discount for buying elite 2s ? because owning the elite 1s where the rubber comes of in less than 12 months is not good and puts me off buying the
new ones when they do come out .

    Let's Talk About Controllers

I only use Elite controllers. I had a couple of the black ones, but the rubber grips kept coming off. I'm currently using the white Elite controller. I've had it for about 7 months now, with no issues yet.

    Extended Warranty - Elite Controller

I don't know where is the "elite" on a controller with so many flaws. My elite controller rubber grips become loose and are opened. I am a casual gamer and take excellent care of my stuff. It looks more like its a manufacturing flaw. We will know for sure
if their engineering team fixed this when they launch the new Xbox One S which comes with a controller that features rubber grips same as the elite.

    Pro Controllers

I would not recommend the Elite controller. They wear down very quickly with the rubber grips coming off quite quickly. I had mine less than a year and the grips started coming off the back. For others, I can't really say as I have never tried another.
  17. DoubleDRAGON666 Win User

    Xbox Elite or Scuf?

I also have the Xbox Elite controller and the rubber grips are coming off within a year. I probably wouldn't recommend them because of that reason alone. Although I'm not too sure how good the Scuf controllers are either.
