Xbox one elite controller rubber grips coming off

I contacted Microsoft about it, if you are within the first year your covered by warranty. If you are one day outside of the warranty the answer they gave me was "Buy a new one". Bit of a joke really, they also recommended that i don't use any third party
replacement grips but informed they me they don't sell official Grips or offer any servicing for controllers. The controller is a farce, do not buy one! and as this has been said about a 1000 times on this thread already but yes this is a manufacture default
    and should be recalled.

So I bought my first one in April 2016, and started having the right hand rubber grip start to peel away in July 2017.

Thing is, this rubber is under quite a bit of strain, being taught over the controller, and it has to endure things like heat from being held.

So once the rubber breaks free of the adhesive, it has a tendency to expand, forming a 'blister' that can definitely be felt in the hand.

Cosmetics would be one thing, but it feels wrong.

Now, given that this is a premium product, I felt that wasn't really good enough. The main reason I paid the premium for the Elite controller wasn't just the customisation, but higher build quality with the higher amount of metal parts, etc.

So it would be more resilient to things like the stick loosening beyond the dead-zones range.

It's just he adage of how you should at least get what you pay for.

It took a couple of hours with Microsoft support via live chat, mainly because it was outside of warranty but a little respect and politeness can go a long way as the rep spent a good 30 or so minutes convincing someone further up the chain to give me a
once-off curtesy replacement, despite being 3 months out of warranty.

I sent my old one off with a pre-paid UPS label and got a replacement within about 2 weeks.

...that said, after only 2 months and being *very* careful with the controller, keeping it well out of direct sunlight etc... it's started coming loose on the left grip. Same way, same thing.

A replacement is not an option this time, so I peeled it the rest of the way to apply a liberal amount of glue to keep the whole inner surface of the rubber bonded to the plastic, since the blister/bubble feel drives me crazy.

So far so good, but I did notice that it looks like MS are skimping on the amount of adhesive they are using, which might explain why it happened so quickly this time.

It didn't go all the way to the edges and didn't really seem to be applied in a very effective way.

Had mine for a couple of years now, my rubber grips are starting to come off to now, though one of my thumbsticks was always a bit ****, sounds like the magnet in the controller was a bad idea, I could fix it if they didn't design the controller and the
xbox to not come apart easily as to make you give them even more money to pay for repairs. But that's what they do. Sell you broken overpriced things that you have to spend even more money to fix.

  5. Nope, not true at all. I baby the heck out of all my digital "stuff". Even my controllers—they're never dropped, thrown or even mashed around in my hands nor are the buttons ever mashed. I'm a laid-back person and player, and even my controllers are cleaned
with electronics and component safe cleaners, once every 3-5 days during heavy use. Not one time has any of them even ever touched the floor.

I waited to buy the Elite controller until 6 months ago, just to make sure any build and/or technological issues were worked out because I hate being the "guinea pig" in a development process.

In that 6 months, I've had 7 Elite controllers replaced (Best Buy warranty) as the grips on 4 of them come off and 3 had stick and/or button issues. I find it VERY hard to believe that I have THAT kind of luck, that 7 controllers would have been "faulty". Even
one of the controllers was set aside and purposely not used by anyone except my GF (there's no kids here) and she only plays once a week if that, and her grips started coming off 1.5 months in. We also have no pets, so can't accuse an animal of chewing the
    grip off.

Hate to inform you, this isn't a user issue in many cases. Hell my original XBONE Controllers from years ago still work just perfectly, but I so love the feel/fit/weight of the Elite.

The Elite is just substandard considering the price. They need to tighten up the important "easy-to-break" areas for that price tag, I feel they've kind of crossed the line of "acceptability" regarding product failure. I mean, we'll all accept product failure
if we get a good usage time out of a product which we've paid a good price for. $150+ this thing—you'd figure it should last 3-5x longer than a standard controller, but they just don't.

And to be quite honest, having worked my entire career in a development arena, the consumer doesn't know what "normal" is, that's tested, determined and kept as proprietary information by developers of products, and they have to benefit commercially/fiscally...
so yes, these types of products are built using the lowest common denominator insofar as "quality" is concerned.

With the amount of use they undergo in even a 5 hour gaming session, they'd need to be made of carbon fiber or some type of graphite composite to truly last, but they're not, it's not cost effective for them or us.

I had the same issue, unfortunately it was with the super limited Gears of War edition elite controller, so there was nothing they could do about it because I would have to send it in for the black standard version.

Only options you have is try to re glue them on, but it won't matter long as the rubber strenches and won't fit at all. Mine is a mess. Or, you can call customer support and they will make a ticket for you to send it in to get a replacement one, at least
that's what my only option was.

But no way was I going to send in my limited GoW one just to have them throw it away. It's disappointing for sure.

  9. That pic brings back a painful memory. It's the beginning of the end! :-D

I would say Microsoft should eliminate the rubber grips in future versions. Is it truly such a premium feature that improves your gaming skills? The standard ones get along just fine without them...

That’s how mine started ... give it a while longer and all rubberised parts will be peeling off like a banana skin.

I believe the rubber expands over time with heat. I tried gluing mine back down, but they no longer fit snugly into the plastic recess. It’s around 5mm to big now, so I had to trim them.

Pretty disgraceful to pay the price for a ‘premium’ product and have nothing done by Microsoft in the way of compensation. I love the weight of the elite, but will never buy another one.

I've had the same issue with my elite controller, we have attempted gluing but the rubber panels have slid so far out of place that all the glue does is solidify the warped shape.

I've never had this issue with a controller before and my others are all in excellent condition.

I still enjoy using the elite over my other controllers, it truly is a shame that this has happened and I hope Microsoft resolve this issue for future buyers.

I have 2 elite controller both have their gripes falling off and it not like u can just put it back on... when u try to it doesn't fit right almost as if the rubber part is too big and doesn't fit the controller.... 300$ on 2 elite controller and neither
are close to a year old, Microsoft so be offering free replacement on their defective products especially when they themselves acknowledge that it's defective.... I want my 300$ back or 2 new elite controllerso with a lifetime quarentee..
