Xbox One elite controller is a rip off

Dear Microsoft,

I haven't been on this forum in a long long time but wanted to vent my frustration And highlight an issue I hope a lot of forum members will agree on and Microsoft may actually read. Having only owned my elite controller for 4 months and treating it with
great care I was surprised that the left stick started drifting this soon. speaking to Xbox support (admittedly after waiting for half an hour) a very friendly guy sorted it out and I should have a new replacement in 10 days which was nice. But considering
I paid 4 times the price of the normal one I'm angry as in reality, other than a snazzy exterior, a nice cable and some metal buttons on the back I think it's pretty much the same as the normal one. I'd expect at that price that the interiors should be made
from higher quality parts and it certainly shouldn't break after 4 months use. Over the years I've owned 2 Xbox, 3 Xbox 360s and an Xbox one but in all honesty I reckon I've spent more than that on controllers and headsets! the accessories side of the business
provides most companies with massive profit margins (look at apples profits from power chargers) and its in companies interests to make them have a limited shelf life. This is even a strategy that some companies intentionally employ to make more money. Microsoft,
you have the power and the money to make your peripherals with higher quality materials that are likely to last longer. Please do so as I believe having happy customers that return to you for further business is far more important than increased profit margins!
Having also just bought a further two headsets (I buy two now knowing they won't live for long) how about making an elite headset out of military grade materials for us? Id happily pay £100 for that if I knew it was going to last!

ELITE CONTROLLER IS A RIP OFF

I have a day one elite controller that I did the pre-order on when they were announced. It has been working just fine without any issues and it is the only controller I use. About 3 months ago one of the grips did start to come off and I was able to find
new oem grips on ebay and amazon for $10. I consider this normal ware and tear so I see no reason to down grade the device for this, no different then a car having similar wear.

I have an xbox one elite controller, it's working fine - Use it as my primary controller and the grips / buttons all work fine, you must have been unlucky and received a defective unit.

 

These posts always confuse me, not only is my Xbox one day one headset still working perfectly fine..... but my day one 360 headset is also perfectly fine. What on earth are you doing with them to warrant yourself buying 2 at the same time????? Same goes
for the Elite pad, again, bought day of release and is in absolute perfect working order, along with a few of my friends who also bought it......

Genuinely puzzles me how people have so many problems.

You say that people will keep on buying Xbox products if they are made out of better materials, the problem is that they simply wont.

Gamers are strange in that most of them (not the hardcore gamer) will quite happily jump ship for the slightest thing. Reasons for people moving from one console to another range from "game X isn't on the Xbox, im selling my console and getting a PS4" to
"The Xbox comes with Kinect, I don't want that, so I'm getting a PS4"

Never have I read "I'm staying with the PS4/Xbox because the controllers are built really well"

Also Like Haz said, I've also owned the original Xbox, the 360 and now the One, and ive never had a controller break or for that matter a headset. I'm not saying your lying, just that your either really unlucky, or something your doing is causing your problems.

 

i agree with the topic starter . The built quality of LS and RS is poor.

I had mine broken after a month after a few hours of careful use..

It has been changed but i guess that the new one has the exact same built quality .

 

Exactly the same as the standard Xbox One controller.. .poor build quality. Not sure if it's the same for these elite controllers, but the standard ones have a plastic clip inside that breaks very easily, making the whole thing unusable.

The question being: Why would they use a flimsy plastic clip for the sticks? When the 360 controllers used a metal one, and were much more sturdy.

There's a thread on here (that has since been closed - conveniently), that has thousands of replies from people with the same problem concerning the standard controllers. Xbox just tried to make people run through checks like making sure the firmware was
updated etc, without actually acknowledging the problem, or fixing it.

The thread was closed just prior to the release of these new controllers.. take from that what you will, but I know what I think about it.

I myself have had 3 standard controllers break this way. I can't say that I'm surprised to see it carry over to these new elite controllers.

 

i have 2 day one controllers that have been hammered by me and my kids, they are still in mint condition and working perfectly, bought a new controller 6 months ago and that is still working perfect, and i mean they get hammered, i must be the luckiest purchaser
of hardware in the world to always get items that don't fail.

 

All mine are fine too Farscape. Two Day One pads, limited ed blue cammo and limited ed copper. All fine despite alot of abuse from the kids. My son has an Elite pad at his mums and thats fine too.

 

I"ll will admit i am a heavy handed player but i have just bought myself a second controller an genuine one and iam already finding it is not operating properly But i do think they need to address these problems the sooner the better

 

No issues with the Elite. I used to have issues with the bumpers on the standard controllers losing their click far too quickly. The build quality on the Elite is far superior.

 

Mines been fine although ive only used it a few days.

But it feels fantastic and well worth the price, customisation is great and still cheap compared to other similar controllers (scuf).

All electronics can fail out of the box although it's a very low percent chance. Does not make the controller rubbish or a rip off. Just bad luck.

I've only ever had one controller break on me in my years and that was more due to Tony Hawks 3 nerd rage. Even my PS4 ones since launch have been fine and they are notorious for the rubber breaking. Guess I'm lucky.
