Xbox One Elite Bundle

I see they're now offering the xbox one elite bundle which comes with a 1TB Hybrid SSD drive, and the $150 elite controller that everyone's been talking about.

For those who don't know, a hybrid SSD drive is a normal platter drive, with an additional SSD storage chip built into it. This way, the drive doesn't cost much more than a regular HDD, but still gives some SSD benefits. The drive will copy the files used
most often into the SSD chip so that those files will load much faster. For the X1, this means much faster boot times, especially for "energy saver" mode. If you tend to play 1 game a lot, that game's loading times will likely become much faster as well. I
don't suspect you will find much difference in OS performance post boot. Perhaps when loading the settings and other similar panels.

I honestly don't know why they weren't using hybrid drives to begin with. They're not much more costly than regular drives. It's a shame though, that I can't upgrade my existing X1 as the drives are not user replaceable.

Anyone making the plunge to Elite? I'd love to hear performance results once a few people have one.

Storage limitations of SSDs are the most likely reason for not using them in the original xbox one product roll out.

 

These aren't SSDs, they are hybrid SSDs. (Combination of a regular platter, with a smaller SSD "Cache") These have been available in 500GB size for many years now, and for only a tiny bit more money than a regular 500GB HDD.

 

ThenXbox One Elite bundle is cool and a good deal. I would have went with this to replace my Day One edition (save my Day 1 as a back up )Xbox One. But the Halo 5 Limited Edition was to much awesomemess for me to pass up.

 

I will be purchasing this. Any idea how long it will be available?

 

I would imagine for the foreseeable future, and for sure through the holidays.
