Xbox One Elite and Windows wireless adapter disconnecting

(First of all, I tried to contact Microsoft support but when logging in it doesn't display my first and last name in the login details and I can't manually input them so I had to make a post here. Any help dealing with that would be useful too.)

Now, the issue is that I have a brand new elite controller and a wireless adapter. The controller works fine connected via usb but connected wireless it disconnects whenever I move the thumbsticks. I'm not sure which part is to blame cos I don't have access
to a spare elite controller, adapter, or windows 10 pc. The pc part I could organise but its a mission. I've tried doing as the troubleshooter suggested and turned off all devices that could interrupt the signal and made sure the controller and adapter have
line of sight. I notice using a display to show input from the controller that there is a delay or lag when I move the thumsticks and then it disconnects (sometimes momentarily, sometimes for good). Does anyone have a clue as to how I could check which part
of the setup (controller/adapter/software/hardware) is at fault here?

Xbox one elite controller

I updated the firmware on my Xbox one elite and xbox one controller. I have a wireless xbox adapter for windows. After updating each controller they no longer work with wireless. I tried updating the adapter and it is up to date?
