    Xbox One/Elgato HDCP Hard Reset Issue


    Why is it that we have to restart the entire console to clear HDCP just because an app which utilizes it was opened at some point? When the app is closed (Quit) or if the console is in Instant-On mode and it is turned off and turned back on HDCP still seems
    to be in place which doesn’t make much sense.

    Elgato’s own documents also show that HDCP does not clear itself which results in recording or video detection in general not working properly for gameplay capture.

    My question is... is there an alternative to clear HDCP other than restarting or hard resetting the console and waiting those 1-5 minutes for it to completely start up? If not are there plans to address this?

    I do not remember this being an issue 1-2 years ago but now with no Mixer/dashboard streaming option this is proving to be really inconvenient and impacts UX.

    Also, if you route your Xbox through anything like a PC capture card or Elgato capture, this can stop DVD's playing as well for the same reason Mister Ohnaka mentions (HDCP rights)

    Sorted it.

    I run my 360, PS3 and my Xbox One through an Elgato Game Capture HD. It turns out that HDCP is enforced when watching movies and using Netflix so that's what was causing it. I'm an idiot.

    I'll just carry on using my PS3 as a Blu-ray player. ^_^

    I figured it out. I forgot I had my Elgato 60hd plugged in and it has hdcp on it, so his voice track must me protected. Thanks for your help!

    That sounds like a good setup. Since it's just receiving signal and only sending back handshakes and HDCP it's not doing anything that would cause something to break, unless the device itself is bad, but wouldn't affect other devices. Are you currently
    having issues with that setup not displaying or are you concerned that the set up caused is what caused issues with your display last time round?

    I also realize I said DHCP and not HDCP, which are very different things with the same letters (DHCP is networking, HDCP is copy protection), so I apologize for any confusion that might cause.
    My setup is currently working fine. I am just worried that my tv, or Xbox, or Elgato in PC will stop working like my Xbox One X did with the previous splitter and same setup. The current splitter acted funny showing NO Signal on TV until I unplugged power
    and all cables and switched the 2 output cables leading to TV and Elgato Game Capture Card. That worries me. Thanks for the reply. Also, I read some 1-star reviews for my current splitter and they said devices stopped working after a while and they thought
    it was the splitter's fault.
