Xbox One Dust Cover

Good Morning,

Just bought a Xbox One dust cover off of Amazon. Obviously, the console will not be covered while it's turned on. My question is, what setting do I have to adjust to make sure the the console doesn't update or run after I power off the system? I am concerned
with it over heating with the dust cover and want to ensure nothing is running once I power off the console.

As you can put coverage to the console while it is off, this helps against dust.

I cover mine. Just keep it so it doesn't auto update.

Automatic updates

To set your console to automatically receive updates:

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Select System > Settings.
Select System > Updates & downloads.
Select Keep my console up to date for console and Keep my games & apps up to date for games and apps.

Just make sure you do not have these set to automatically update.

Also in the same section make sure you select "Energy Saving Mode".

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Select Settings > All settings.
Select Power mode & startup. Make sure Power mode is set to Energy-Saving

So just to confirm, I want to "UNCHECK" the boxes that say " Keep my console up to date," and "Keep my apps up to date." Than switch the power mode to Energy Savings? Thanks again!

I will still have the opportunity to update the games and console, I presume I would be notified of the updates when the system is on?

Yes. When you turn your console on, if there is an update available for the console there will be a little icon by the settings symbol.

However, for games you wont know until you try to play the game that there is an update available. What I do everytime I turn on my console is I go to "my games and apps" and go to my games. I check the updates tab to see of any games have available updates.
If they do I update even if I don't plan on playing them at that time.

Definitely follow the instructions that brandiesel1 gave to turn off auto update. that would be an awful thing to happen while it is covered.
