Xbox One drive doesn't recognise inserted disk.

Sometimes when I insert a disk into my X1's optical drive it doesn't recognise the disk. No error message it just acts like there is no disk inserted. Is this a known issue I can ignore or should I book my X1 in for repair?

    :)

Strange behavior of optical drive on Xbox One Standard

I just got an Xbox One. It seems to work fine with the following exception: If I shut down the console with a disk still inserted, anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours later, the fan on the console starts up, then the motor on the drive (this is with
the console off). If I shut it down instead, with no disk inserted, the problem doesn't occur. Is this normal?

Xbox One drive doesn't recognise inserted disk.

Ive started to have this exact same issue. My console is from the advanced exchange programme and its been working flawlessly since Ive had it. However the last couple of weeks its started to not read discs. I have various games on disc all installed to
the hdd. When I go to launch the game the icon of the game is not available and therefore I cannot play it. Ive tried different discs (blu ray, dvd r etc) and it seems to be hit or miss with them. Currently it is working but it does chop and change. What would
be the best course of action?

Same here! Everything else and all other disks, be it a game or bluray disk, run absolutely perfectly. But GTA5 has all of a sudden stopped working! when i put the disk into the drive it spins up briefly, then opens the bluray app and tells me the disk isnt
readable! It knows that the disk in the drive is GTA5 by bringing up the icon for the game, with the little white disk in the top right corner. But when you click on it, it just make the boing noise and does nothing else! When i looked in my apps and games
section and click on GTA% icon, it takes me to the store to buy the game, but its already installed and has been running perfectly, but after the update from microsoft the console did in janruary, it just wont at all! Please help Microsoft!!!

  7. Firstly, it's spelled, "DISC" with a 'C', as in 'COMPACT DISC'! 'Disk' is short for 'diskette', the square floppy disks used on older systems & PC. Why people don't know that, or why anyone would spell it, 'disk' is beyond me, but now you know so there's
    no excuse.

My Destiny disc is brand new, but after power off when the console is fully booted-up again it will not recognise my Destiny disc, but all other disc games work. I've read online there's a common bug with the early consoles (mine is a Day One) which stops
certain but not all discs from being read.

There's a trouble shoot for this issue on the Xbox Support web page which suggests changing the power mode from 'Instant On' to 'Energy Saving' then performing a hard-reset. This only worked once for me, & only after loading my Black Ops 3 disc first. Usually
I have to uninstall Destiny, (also switching my disc read settings to automatically play discs) then spend a long time messing about switching discs & hard-resetting before my Destiny disc even reads, THEN I have to spend over an hour just to re-install Destiny.
Hours of messing about just to get one game to work, & all because my console reset after an update today (& a few days ago!). Ofcourse this means, other than automatic updates/resets I'm forced to leave my Day One Xbox One BETA console ON all the time if
I want my Destiny disc to work, which isn't good for the console!

Support have suggested over the phone that I try the disc in another console or back at the store I got it from, but I know it will work as it's not the brand new disc, it's the console! Even if it was the disc, I would not get a free replacement as it worked
fine when I got it. The prpose of trying it on another console is only to prove it's not the disc at fault.

Then Support tells me if it's not the disc, the next step would be to factory reset my Xbox, which I am not prepared to do, wasting more hours re-installing EVERYTHING, just because they can't make a console which works properly!

The only solution seems to be upgrading to a new Xbox One (or a PS4! That many customers can't be wrong!) now that they've improved on the Day One console after ironing out the bugs. Wait, what did we pay extra for on a Day One XB1? Endless problems, & to
help Microsoft improve the console for newer customers! Nothing for us Day One owners! No (extra) free games or controllers, or any exclusive perks atall! Infact the early controllers all developed the common 'drift' problem with the sticks going in one direction
by themselves! My Day One controller had to be replaced after 3 weeks, & all replacements since became faulty within a few months! I've finally found a third party controller which doesn't seem to develop the faults of the official controllers, the PDP Afterglow
wired controller, which is also cheaper but better than the official controllers. (And the neon light looks nice!) The only fault I've had is the (wired) controllerer disconnects for a second at random for no reason, but leaving the chat wire connected stops
this happening. I'm sure this is another console issue though, not the controller, which is the best I've used!

I also have many other faults with my Xbox One, like the screen freezing with my menu panel up, being kicked from party chat within a minute, Upload Studio contantly crashing, & hardly anything else working properly. Every day I have issues! Microsoft needs
to stop making inferior products, & recall ALL Day One consoles for a brand new, free, 1TB console upgrade! I'm not holding my breath though. I'll probably switch to PS4 like everyone else!

Xbox One - so name as it can only do ONE thing at a time, & even then it probably won't work! And their selling point was that it can multitask! No, it can't. I can't even play another game while re-installing Destiny! (For the 100th time!)

    Microsoft = FAIL!

PS: A couple of typos in my essay there, but it's hard to proof-read on my phone in a tiny box before posting. You get my point though.

    about the optic unit

This is not normal behaviour. You do not have to hold on your disk as it stresses the drive mechanism. If you insert the disk normally it doesn't work? You have this problem with every disk?

    Disc drive issue

Hey mate, I've taken the below from this link, which is worth having a read through as it has some good suggestions: support.xbox.com/en-AU/xbox-one/system/disc-error

Try the following solutions if none of your discs will play, or if you insert a disc and your console doesn't recognise it. If your Xbox Dashboard tells you to insert a disc when a disc is already inserted, that means it doesn't recognise your disc. In these
scenarios, there are two possible issues:

•The settings for Instant-On power mode can render a small number of consoles unable to read disks.

•The console’s disk drive needs servicing.

Solution 1: If you use Instant-On power mode, change power modes and power cycle the console

    Here's how:

1.Go to Settings, and then select Power & startup.

2.On the Power & startup screen, under Power mode, use the down arrow to select Energy-saving.

3.Perform a hard power cycle by holding down the console’s power button for 10 seconds. Once the console has completely shut down, press the power button again to restart it.

4.Try your disk again. Wait a few seconds to see if the console recognises it. If the console can now read the disk, you can revert back to Instant-On power mode.

Failing that, it may need to be serviced unfortunately. Hower try those steps and see how it goes :) I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

    Cheers
