Xbox One doesn't work without Ethernet cable

Hello, I just got myself a new Xbox One.

When setting everything up it wouldn't update. So I tested my network connection and sometimes it would say the connection is fine, and sometimes it would say that there's some problem with the IP-Address or something.

Anyway, I plugged in an Ethernet cable and then it updated correctly.

However: when I'm at the home screen and I unplug the Ethernet cable, the Xbox will return to the green starting screen (as if it restarted by itself), and just go in circles. Green screen, black screen (loading), then back to green screen, on and on......

WiFi works fine on all other devices...

And I can't set up a new network because I have to unplug the cable for that...

Please help !!!

Cant connect to internet!!!

i also have a netgear router worked fine for a couple years but haven't been able to get on live for almost a week even tried plugging ethernet cable strait to modem,cables all work router works laptop works xbox console doesn't, my xbox doesn't get online
or even detect ethernet cable?

 

How to Connect Internet Cable directly to Xbox 360

Hi everybody.

So recently I've been experiencing a lot of lag on CoD, i.e, whenever I join a game I get 2-bar and 3-bar connections. So I decided to search for some solutions. I read somewhere that I can fix this problem by directly connecting my Xbox to the router using an Ethernet cable. Now the problem arises as I do not possess an Ethernet cable.
Currently, I have a cable through which Internet is supplied (It's a Fibrenet connection, which uses Optical Fibres for transmitting the Internet) and this cable is connected to a router which provides me WiFi.
I was wondering if I can connect my Internet Cable directly to the Xbox 360 without Ethernet cables.
(The cable looks exactly like an Ethernet cable so it can fit into the Ethernet jack of the Xbox, so that problem is covered.)

EDIT : I connected the Internet Cable to the Xbox but when I tested connection, It does not connect to Internet. Help

 

Try going offline while the cable is plugged in to see if you can get to the home screen. If you can then see if you can set up a new network and get the wireless working.

 

I went offline through the settings (Go offline) and I could then remove the cable and it didn't shut down. I then went back online again to set up a network (so this time I could set up a network), but as soon as I filled in the password and tried to connect,
it restarted again (Green screen) and it went to the main menu and it's not connected to the network.

Any suggestions?

 

If it's brand new , I would exchange it as it sounds like a wireless card problem, your could take it somewhere else (friend or family members house) and check connection there...

 

Yes but like I said, when I was setting it up at the very start it would sometimes connect fine and sometimes it would say there's a problem with the IP-address. So sometimes it did work but now it doesn't.

 

try to go to settings > network > advanced settings > Alternate MAC address > Clear

If you are already having issues with it then go ahead and exchange it before too much time has passed. Good Luck!

 

id say your box is working perfectly fine. your router or whatever connected to it which your box is connected is at fault. try to get in your router configs page and at least find something to set your NAT to open.

My apologies for the late response.

I tried connecting to another network (hotspot from an iPhone) and it could connect to this. Then I switched back to my main network and it connected! So it seems my xbox is working fine, though I don't have a clue why and how this solved the problem.
