Xbox One doesn't work on tv (another xbox one does)

No - the TV has been given to him. However we have another Sony tv (a bit more modern) where it works ok - albeit he did mention the intermittent black screen during gameplay.

Really weird. The two consoles themselves: Are they both the same model of Xbox Ones or different? The S model consoles are smaller and do not have a power brick on the power cord, while the original models are pretty fat and have a power brick on the power
cord. Were both consoles purchased new or used, or one bought as new and one used? While these questions won't change the ultimate end result (if it is indeed the console), it'll help paint a better story for if you have to reach out to us via phone or chat.

We suggest repairs when basic troubleshooting doesn't resolve whatever issues users are running into; we do have some deeper troubleshooting we can do for some things, but TV/display troubleshooting really is limited to what we have on the website. I can
speculate what might be happening, but it's only that: Speculation. There's some hardware symptoms that we generally know what's happening, but here I'm not sure. The fact that it works on one TV and not the other is really weird to me. One thing that I would
be curious to know is if it ever worked on that Sony TV. If yes, then we'd likely have the beginnings of a failing HDMI port on the console. If no, I'd lean more towards a setting, but if they're both set up the same that shouldn't impact
it.

I'm sorry to see any display issues! If you haven't already, go through the steps on our Troubleshooting a blank TV screen or monitor while
your Xbox One is on support article, minus the other TV step. If nothing listed there helps you out, then you will likely need to get that console repaired even though it works on another TV.

A repair does seem a little extreme, though. I would honestly suggest keeping the one that won't work on the Sony connected to the other TV going forward.

If the console is less than a year old (for most regions), then it will be under warranty. If it's over that, then there would be a charge to get it repaired, but that varies from region to region. Registering your device on our
Device Support page will let you know if it's in warranty or not. If you have a Microsoft Store near you, you can swap it out there, too.
