Xbox One doesn't auto update games and applications

My xbox one doesn’t auto update applications and games. I always get the prompt for the update.

The console is set with instant-on and auto update on. My friend doesn't get the prompts. Why is that? Do I need to do a format to factory settings?

My Xbox one doesn't download or update any games and applications. When I start download it stops after a few seconds. Also several applications and games doesn't work. It gives an error code that is not on the site Xbox error code.

What I need to do?

I've never read that the Xbox One is supposed to perform game updates in standby ?

As far as I'm aware the auto update feature is for console updates.

 

No. You need digital copies for them to automatically update. Any disc based game will not update because it cannot verify your license without the disc in the drive. Still glad they reversed all the policies? LOL

 

All my games are not disc based. I buy only digital copies. I also have the same problems with the applications..

Skype the other day for example. So this is not the issue.

 

My games are all digital and none of them update, either. I always have to start the update when I launch the game. Kind of defeats the purpose of the instant on thing. I can wait a minute or so to watch tv from a cold boot, but I want my games to be updated
when I start them if I'm letting my console stay connected and partially on all the time.

 

I have the digital version Battlefield 4 and my console is set to standby mode when powered off but when I start the game at times I am prompted for a manual update so there is some validity to the op's post here.

 

There's something very strange here. Why is it working for some and it isn't for others?

 

that is strange, I have KI and Peggle 2 and both of those update automatically. I can vouch for the apps, Twitch needed an update along with skype and those had to be done manually. So I won't completely discredit you but I have another friend who went all
digital and he says his update all the time while he is away. Must be inconsistent.

 

I have BF4 digital and it doesn't auto update. Honestly, the XBOX One itself doesn't auto update either. When a new update comes it shuts down your console, then you have to turn it back on manually for it to install. Not sure why it just doesn't act like
a PC where it will install the update and automatically restart the console?

 

The update will auto-update in the early hours of the morning. If you get to the game first you will have to do it manually. So if the update becomes avail at 3pm and you don't play the game until the next day it will have auto-updated overnight. If you
play the game at 5pm the same day it will need to update manually.

 

Several days after Skype was updated I started the app for the first time in a couple of month... I got the prompt for the manual update. I did a experiment, I cancelled the update and the next day I tried launching skype again. The same prompt. So no auto
update even day after the update went live and after I made the xbox aware that there was an update.

So I think your statement is not working with me.

 

I am always prompted before installing an update or app on my console. It doesn't really bother me. Although I was very surprised to see that I had to click on the update reg app an update it manually. That kind off sucked. But with all the things going
on I have lowered my expectations. So I am not surprised by this LACK of capabilities!

 

I spoke with Xbox support today about this issue and they clarified something for me. Often, what's happening is the system is prompting us to install the update. It's already been downloaded, but we are approving the installation of the update. That's why
it tends to just be a quick one-step updating process, rather than a downloading step followed by installation.

The auto update is game specific some have it some dont.. games need to be digital version and the console did DL the update... just installs the last few bits....with a verification
