  1. Xbox One does not recognize Blu Rays and DVD's

My Xbox One has a problem not recognizing Blu Ray movies and DVD's. It act's as if there is no disc in the system. It will not release the disc either. I have to unplug it and plug it back in to get the disc out. I sent it in for repair Dec 2014. I got it
back a month later saying everything had been fixed. It was fine for a short while and then started doing it again. I contacted customer support and they said send it in again and put a note in the package with what the problems are. I did so. 2 weeks later
got it back with a note saying there was nothing wrong with the system. Frustrated and moving at the time did not plug it back in because I knew it was not working properly. Finally moved and again it is not releasing the Blu Ray movies or DVD's. I think customer
support/ repair should have thought why would someone send in a perfectly working system to wait a month to play it. Not sure what to do and am really frustrated with how everything has been handled. I have a lot of money invested in this and it feels like
it is going down the drain.

    :)

Xbox One: Blu-ray and DVD movies

I would check out the Xbox page for Blu-ray playback regarding regions. But yes, your Xbox One can certainly play DVD and Blu-ray movies.

  4. Xbox One does not recognize Blu Rays and DVD's

    Hey there TicklishComic8!

I am truly sorry to hear about the disk read issue! Just to clarify, does the issue occur with specific Blu-ray and DVD's? Or does the issue occur with multiple disks including games? If the issue is continuing to occur, I recommend running through the steps
listed in our How to troubleshoot problems playing a disc on your Xbox One console page.

Give the suggested steps a try and be sure to let us know the requested information. Thanks in advance!

  5. Hi Mister Quimby, I have went through the steps multiple times. Both times I sent it in the person had me do those steps before. It is on all movie dvd's and blu rays. Every so often though it drops a game in mid play as well. Just sucks to get told that
"nothing is wrong with it" when obviously there is.

  6. Do what I did: call Xbox Support and get either a repair done or a replacement. My disc drive suddenly stopped working on me yesterday too. Won't play any games or movies, but it works fine with digital copies. I called Xbox Support and now I'm in the process
of shipping out my console for a repair, free of charge. If you are still under your warranty, you shouldn't have to pay for it.

  7. Oh, whoops, apparently you did that. Next time you call support, I'd ask to get a cross-ship: a replacement. After telling them what's wrong and requesting to get an exchange, they should be able to do it. They'll put an amount of money on your card on hold
while they send a new one to you. Once you receive the new one, you send your old one back. Once they receive it, the hold on your card will be lifted.

Thanks for the advise ChickenNugget75 but not putting anything on my card. I would have no problem sending them my system and when they get it they can send me a new one in it's place. Or just replace the disc drive with a new disc drive. I really did not
like how it was done the second time around. Sending it right back and saying nothing was wrong. Why would I send in a system that was in good working order? Why would I want to loose time playing something that I paid a lot of money for, for no reason? And
if they would have noticed this was a problem with it before. Just feel like I'm being told "not our problem, go buy a new one." And don't really like that.

  9. I really don't see why you can't talk your way out of this mess. You should try calling and referring back to your case files and the previous efforts that have been made and forcing them to look back, and politely requesting them to immediately send you
a new system free of charge after you send them your broken one. They should email you a shipping label and you will print it out and package the system, and mail it to them, and then They SHOULD mail you a new system. (or at least a refurbished one)....

If they don't do that, then you will just be stuck with a system that doesn't play discs or blu-rays and hopefully it plays games. If it doesn't play games, I think you have an entirely different fiasco on your hands.

Had this exact same problem a month or so after day 1 (minus the eject problems). I called support over this so many times it wasn't funny. Their response was always to go to settings and delete the cache. This of course never did a thing. In fact the only
thing that has ever worked was to hold the Disc for a nano second while it tries to grab it and this would force the Xbox to seat it correctly or whatever it was doing wrong and the game, movie, blu Ray whatever would work like normal.

  12. Yep told me the same thing bud. I personally think they should replace those systems. If it went out with a faulty disc drive, they should replace them. Like I said, I have no problem sending in my system first and when they get it they can send me a new
one. I just have way to much invested in it to just say whatever. I told the person on chat how much I follow Microsoft and Xbox. I have an Original Xbox with a library of games. 2 Xbox 360's with 8 controllers and 30+ games and the Xbox One with 4 controllers
and 20+ games. It just sucks that when I talk to them they seem like it does not matter/ our problem and we need to just buy another one.

Things that NEED FIXING with XBOX ONE...ASAP

Can we get mass game clip delete, Also need much better Blu-Ray type recognition on Xbox One, there are quite a few Blu Ray movies that the Xbox One just will not play or recognize, the XB1 dose not play home movies save to Blu Ray media and this needs to
be addressed, our PS4 can do it well on all Blu-Ray formats. The XB1 does a superb job with most any type of DVD's.

Xbox One X only reads XB1 game dvds

    Hi,

The optical drive in the Xbox One is a Blu-ray drive. Xbox One discs are on Blu-ray disc, same as HD Blu-ray movies. Xbox 360 games came on DVD disc.

Oversimplifying my explanation a little, the Xbox One has separate lasers for reading DVD discs than it does for reading Xbox One blu-ray discs.

The laser that is used to read DVD's has failed. This isn't a software issue, it's a hardware one. Unfortunately you can't fix this yourself, you'll need your console repaired. Sorry.

360 Discs aren't read by my Xbox One

Can you try and Xbox One disc in the console plus a Blu Ray / DVD to see it those discs work?

    Man

It read XBO and blu rays, but not DVD or 360...
Does anyone had this issue too?
  18. Obsessive Power Win User

What does the Xbox 360 use in it’s games? Discs or DVDs? (Or something else)

    To clarify;

    PlayStation 1 - CD-ROM

    Sega Saturn - CD-ROM

    Sega Dreamcast - GD-ROM - A proprietary disc format

    PlayStation 2 - DVD

Nintendo GameCube - Nintendo Optical Disc

    XBOX - DVD

    PlayStation 3 - Blu-Ray

    XBOX 360 - DVD

Nintendo Wii - Wii Optical disc (basically DVD)

    Wii U - Wii U Optical disc (basically Blu-Ray)

    PlayStation 4 - Blu-Ray

    XBOX One, One S and One X - Blu-Ray

    PlayStation 5 - Blu-Ray

    XBOX Series X - - Blu-Ray
