XBox One Disk drive not taking/reading or recognising disks

I would like to know how to make a formal complaint to Microsoft in relation to my Xbox One. My wife bought me by console back in June 2016 and I have not been able to use it to play games on as the disk drive will not take any disks and when it does it
    will not scan/read them.

I have telephoned Customer Support who tell me that I have to pay £140 which I then have to send my Xbox to them and then they will send me a refurbished one! Surely this is not fair and consoles of this amount should last longer than the time it has!

I would appreciate feedback on this and how I can escalate this further please.

    Thanks in advance!

    :)

    Disk Drive Not Reading

    Hi CaptREX501,

Sorry you're having issues with your drive. That sound is definitely not normal. If you're now having issues reading discs or its causing any damage to the discs I would use the link below and submit a repair on your Xbox. If you've had the console longer
than a year you will need to pay to have it serviced, which is far less than a new console.

    I understand your frustration.

But the Xbox not reading a disc can have several reasons, that you can also try to fix yourself first.

First of all, be aware that if your console is in the "Instant On" power mode, the console never really shuts down, and has the operating system always running in a low power state, where the console updates your games and its system software.

However, when a program accessing the disc drive crashes, the program "locks" access to the drive, as the system assumes the crashed program is still using the drive.

This can be resolved by holding the power button for about 10 seconds, and then restarting the console. Make sure the console shows you a green boot-up screen. If it doesn't show the green bootup screen and goes to the home screen right away, hold the power
    button again for 10 seconds.

Then try to have the console read your disc(s) again.

Also, if most discs read, but only a few don't, it might be that the disc itself is "dirty". While I take great care with my discs, and as a collector of older consoles keep them in pristine condition, some consoles won't read the discs, even if there are
no visible signs of dirt or scratches. So I take the disc to the kitchen, apply some mild dishwasher soap on the silver side, and "massage" the soap all over the silver side with wet fingers. Then I rinse off the soap under running water, shake the disc several
times to get the water off, and wipe the remaining drops with a soft, lint free cloth.

After that, the disc usually works.

If both these suggestions don't work, then I'm afraid your disc drive really is defective. While I understand it is annoying for you, I can say that my 2013 Day One Xbox One still reads discs without problems. So usually, the consoles *do* last longer than
yours. But also understand that things eventually break one way or another sooner or later. I don't know about your living circumstances, but in my case, as a collector, I take great care of my consoles, and have a special room in my house where I keep my
consoles, in a non-smoking nearly dust-free environment, and consoles even more than 40 years old still work.

If you keep your console in a dusty bedroom, smoke in that room, or have kids that put Nintendo DS games in the drive slot, the drive won't last as long.

Microsoft has a voluntary one year warranty on the console.

So, unfortunately, unless the store where you bought the console from has an additional warranty plan, your only option is to have Microsoft repair the console for
    £140.

Xbox one will not play games

Disks not been recognised is different to the 0% install thing.

If the system does not recognise the disk you have a dud console. The 0% install thing is slowwwwwwww download servers, before installing from the disk it patches the game, which can take hours at the moment.

    Disc is ureadable- Help!

    Have you tried different disk?

I would try a few different disk (games, dvds, etc). If you have the same problems with those disk then the drive is going bad. If it is just one disk then there is an issue with the disk for some reason.

If it is just the one disk you can try installing the game. Then the only time the drive will read the disk is on start up.

External hard drive from a xbox one to a gaming desktop pc

    Hi,

After you connect the drive back up to your PC, you'll need to run the Windows Disk Management application. You need to use this Windows tool to format the drive back to NTFS.

The drive won't show on your PC until you do this as when the the drive is formatted on Xbox One, the file system it uses is not recognised in Windows.

The quickest way to get to the Disk Management tool is by right clicking on the Windows Start button and selecting Disk Management from there.
