This is a idea, what i would LIKE to be able do is play game that i have i installed on my console without need to swap disc (now i understand that to prevent building a huge library of games installing them and then returning the games is plausible reason
to NOT have this feature) my idea is this. a 7 day expiring license that is auto renewed every time the game disc is put in.

basically, you put the disc in and it will renew the license allowing disc less play for 7 days, at the end of 7 days, disc less ply is disabled (unless the disc is put back in)

Well forums, is this a great idea, a bad idea, a meh idea or what.

    :)

  2. Disc-less Xbox One Console?

We have said this in another thread. I also think it's a good idea, it would also be cheaper to buy, as there would be no Blu-Ray player within

    Xbox ONE Disc-less play idea

So, buddy buys a game, lends it to his other buddy both can play for 7 days, each reinsert the game and play another 7 days. Cant see this happening at all.

    -

Go DD then there is no disc swapping at all......

  6. Isn't this somewhat like what MS wanted to do in the 1st place, except that it was every 24 hours rather than 7 days?

Bad idea. Lots of games can be played and finished in less time than that.

  9. Go the PC game route and require a unique code in each box. This can have the added benefit, just like most PC games, of also then giving you a digital copy of the game.

People get to play disc free and publishers get to kill the used market as they wanted.

Convenience costs, and it isn't always directly cash.

^Doesn't that method allow the unscrupulous to prey on the little kids? Install game, use code...put everything back in case, shrink wrap....sell to the "suckers"

  11. That's certainly a possibility but the money you'd get from a 'second hand' PC game wouldn't be worth it.

After all you can buy Arkham Knight and the season pass on the PC for £19.99. What's the cheapest you can find the same for the Xbox One? £70? Now I know the PC version has its issues but it isn't £50 worth of issues.

Forgive the slight tangent there. The point was that the used market doesn't exist on the PC and the general public selling PC games is met with deep suspicion.

I've always thought it'd be cool to have a physical to digital trade in program. You could send in your disc to MS and they would issue a digital license for your game.

I went digital this gen and I find myself buying fewer games. I only get stuff I know I'll like since I can't recoup any costs with digital. With this program, I could try new games out in physical form, and I like it, keep it as digital by sending it
in. This would also help bring down used game sales and allow people with slow internet connections or data caps to install the game and still go digital.

I like the idea Atom. Not the 7 days as that would not work. I could see many finishing a game in 7 days and thus the disc would be passed around a lot. Even heavy MP games that people would play a lot, maybe like Black Ops 3, would be easy to pass around.
I could install it, let a friend install it tomorrow, then another the day after that. At that point we just make sure we all re-insert the disc on "our day" and keep it going.

The original 24 hour plan could easily be implemented, no policy change needed. For people who do not have internet the game disc is required like always. Just allow people with internet to do this. But 24 hours is too short. If I put the disc in that
day I probably am not going to be changing it a lot. Would not help much. I am more for a 48 hour or maybe 72 hours if possible. But again, no stopping them from implementing this as an option.

The only thing might be that some games could be finished in the first day and that might be a $$ issue for said dev/publisher. Then again, not really because anybody can finish a game quickly if the game is short enough and sell it or trade it in. I know
people who finish games they buy quickly and then resell on eBay and places to get most of the money back. Some will trade at GS as well.

I am guess Op was not around when this was the normal idea that was released about XB but people screamed and cried about having to connect to the internet once every 24 hours...

    even with a cell phone..

  15. Good idea, bad timing.

Corporations in this era dont trust consumers, and consumers dont trust corporations. So I say leave everything as is. Otherwise you'll get more DRM twisting/turning policies than The Carters (Former 1st family) has liver pills.
