Ok so I am wondering what I am doing wrong. Disks I have Battlefield 4 (premium content downloaded) 35.6 GB, Destiny 17.9GB, Titanfall 18.5GB and Garden Warfare 16.7GB. I also have Madden NFL 14.76 GB that was a direct download.

I can understand Battlefield with the premium @ 35.6 GB but why are the other games (Destiny, Titanfall, & GW) have such as
HUGE HD presence? Even my downloaded game Madden is THE WHOLE GAME and its not as large as these disc run games!!!

If this is correct….why the heck is the physical hard drive only 500GB? At 38.8% of my hard drive already used (two apps, Netflix and Blueray) I am in serious trouble If I want to add more games-music-movies-apps to my XB1!!!

    :)

Sometimes the disc needs to be formatted if there are corrupt data that impede its normal usage.

Hard drive usage for Xbox One games, Xbox 360 games or games on any system can not be determined by the size of the game - as in how much you can do or even the size of the game world. The amount of storage a game uses is mostly down to it's graphics textures.

Battlefield 4 for example has very varied environments. This game goes from urban combat, to grassy plains to deserts and even island battles. The textures for these environments are all different and are of much higher resolution than the equivalent texture
graphics on the Xbox 360 version, hence the larger data footprint.

As for 'Disc run games', such a concept does not exist on the Xbox One. All Xbox One games are installed fully from the game disc. Once you install the game from disc, the console only reads the disc to confirm ownership, the game itself runs entirely from
the hard drive. Xbox One games purchased on disc use exactly the same amount of hard drive space the digital versions.

Xbox One reserves part of the hard drive storage for system software, native apps, system updates and other system related needs. The user portion of the hard drive is actually 365GB. This may have been an issue a few months ago, but the most recent updates
now allow the use of USB 3.0 external hard drives. The minimum is 256GB, there is no maximum upper limit.

  5. This is a direct result of the whiners who wanted to be able to purchased used games for the new GEN. If things wouldn't have changed one could play disc based games without them in the console. You would just install off from the disk the very first time
then you just leave the disk in the case it came with.

Thanks OP. The major problem I see with Microsoft is that they seem to change what people like and currently use into a completely new way of doing things.

Wish they would listen more to the consumer…sigh.

I guess EB has never bought a used game or borrowed a game/rented to see if it was worthy of owning.

    Good for you!

    Disc Burn

If you moved the console while the disc was in the tray, then the disc will likely need to be replaced as that kind of damage to the disc is very hard to repair. As for the weird noise, in my experience, that's just the fan attempting to keep up with long
stretches of gameplay. To lower that, I would recommend that the game be installed to the console's hard drive if one is present, which drastically reduces the usage of the disc drive during gameplay and in general lets the console run cooler.
