    Xbox one dimming


    Just started about a month ago and I have had my xbox since ithe original release day. No matter what you are doing as soon as the xbox remote goes to sleep the xbox game, TV, whatever dims and is very hard to see. I tried resetting the xbox and it seemed
    to work for a few days but back to dimming.

    Screen dimming during games

    Hello, I am pointing out an issue with the screen dimming feature on Xbox One.

    When trying to play Fibbage, a game which doesn't require controller input as it uses a browser to answer questions, the screen keeps dimming unless you fondle the controller to keep the console happy it knows you are there.

    I believe there used to be an option to disable the dimming feature on Xbox 360, but of course there isn't one on the Xbox One.

    Xbox one dimming

    If you let the controller sit idle for some time, the game will dim the screen, and the controller will eventually shut off by itself. This is to prevent wear on the TV screen and save controller battery power.

    Pushing a button, moving the joystick, or turning the controller back on will bring the screen back to normal.

    Also, if your TV has any sort of auto-contrast, auto-brightness, or auto-backlight setting, consider disabling those features.

    Thank you for your reply I appreciate you taking the time.

    There is a big issue with doing what you suggest. This Xbox, the controller is hardly ever used. I use this Xbox as a media streaming device (Plex, Netflix, Amazon, TV) with a universal remote that controls everything. I never needed the controller on before.
    Again, this all started about a month ago. Has there been a patch recently that's causing this? I don't like having to push a button on the controller every 10 minutes when I am just trying to watch TV or a movie. I may have to switch to a HTPC and scrap this
    Xbox if there is not a solution.

    I did have this issue awhile back but it was the TV causing the dimming and I resolved that issue last year.

    Hi Ashley,

    Try this to see if it fixes your issue with dimming.

    You can change dimming option in Settings. Just head to Settings > Preferences > Idle Options.

    Here, you can change the amount of time before the Xbox One will dim the screen, with options of 2, 10, 20, 30, 45, and 60 minutes. You can also use the option on the left to disable the aforementioned idle notifications if you prefer a more private experience.

    It’s generally best to power off your devices when you know you won’t be using them soon, but this option to manually trigger the Xbox One’s idle screen dimming is handy for times when you need to quickly step away but don’t want to wait on a complete power
    cycle.

    My one dims too after 10 minutes.. Doesn't matter if it's HBO, YouTube, twitch, casting, it dims.
