Xbox One Digital TV tuner

Obviously I will be keeping my 360's (all 4 of them). Sadly, I have no reason to "upgrade" any of them to an X1 though. WMC support is one simple thing they could add to gain a ton of extra sales, but they haven't bothered. At this point it's no wonder the
competition is outselling them nearly 2 to 1 when they're not even offering some of their best supporters any reason to buy their new hardware.

 

Lestat, they likely wouldn't get a "ton" of extra sales with WMC; the amount of people who use WMC on the Xbox 360 is evidence of that (hint: it's not enough people to be profitable enough for MS). Also, not having WMC on the XB1 is NOT the reason the competition
is outselling MS 2 to 1 - the many mistakes MS made early on are (as well as the competition's supposedly superior specs). In addition, with the recently announced and upcoming release of DLNA (and potential subsequent updates to it), WMC will likely stay
behind as a relic of the past.

 

@GG - Happen to have any stats from a source that's even remotely reputable that show that there's not enough WMC users to make a simple WMC extender app profitable? No? How about a source that's maybe slightly reputable? No? Didn't think so. (hint: sites
like thegreenbutton.tv would indicate otherwise, not to mention the fact that it wouldn't require much man power to port an app from a Windows based system to the X1.)

Also, I never said that the lack of WMC support was the sole reason the competition is outselling the X1 nearly 2 to 1. There are plenty of reasons. Things like the lack of WMC support are just a good example of why the faithful have lost faith.

I'll give you a pass on your comments like "supposed superior specs" since the numbers are out there, easy to see, and I'm not going to argue over them.

That is sad though if WMC truly does remain a "relic of the past" since it likely means that Xbox hardware in my house (and MANY others) will likely remain a "relic of the past" as well.

 

WMC is a clunky mess, I used to use it, I moved on like so many others, who needs WMC nowadays with so many ways of streaming and home servers growing, and before you call me a kid I was born in the 70's.

 

Clunky? Sorry, I just don't see it at all. If you found it "clunky" then I suspect you were using it on a old clunky PC or perhaps your network wasn't setup correctly. Even my old PC from 2007 used to be able to run it flawlessly, and it's much easier and
faster than anything that Comcast ever provided. Yea, Netflix and Hulu are great, but they don't provide any type of live local sports. There's things like MLB.tv, but you're *** due to blackouts if you want to watch live local sports. It's also nice to have
the option to watch any TV show live when I want to instead of having to wait 24 hours. WMC gives you the options to do whatever you want.

 

Lestat573 formats do die. Why you just ask HDDVD yourself. Or even VHS and game carts that too. Because they are no longer used.

 

Back onto the topic of the actual TV tuner device, I really wish I could get my hands on one in Australia, the other night I had to keep flicking between a live Rugby League game and Forza 5 to keep updated with the game. Would have been perfect to have
the League game snapped whole I races in Forza. Hopefully by next season it will be out.

 

I may add. Too bad this bad boy not coming in states side any time soon. This would be great for fat farmer 10 miles out of town. That it only get free over the air channles.

WMC is not a "format", it's software. Just an FYI, there is a difference and that's a pretty poor analogy you're attempting to make.

HDDVD never had a chance in the first place considering the fact that Blu-ray was obviously superior and came out about the same time.

Anything generally dies out when something better replaces it. Nothing has come out in recent history that really beats WMC, even though WMC hasn't been updated in practically a decade. That says a lot, and that's why it's sad that MS is completely ignoring
it's potential. I might even be alright with this if it truly was outdated and dying, but it's not. MS still happily collects money for the software, so it's not unreasonable by any means for consumers to still expect them to support it. If they don't want
to support it, fine. Quit charging for it then.

 

It maybe the content copyright holder are keeping happen. Or they have check useage on the 360. And decide not add it. If you type WMC is dead. It pop up about this subject. Manny sorces says it dead. Can't link it you. Because I on the one when type this
out. And it sound grim from what I read.

 

Don't worry, they will quit charging for and providing WMC...

 

@Dark - What are you even talking about? Copyright laws have nothing to do with anything that's being discussed here. As for usage stats, they have no right to check that on the 360 unless they're doing it illegally. They can check some things with WMC usage
on a PC, but even then it's an opt-in system. I find it hard to believe that many tech savvy people that would use WMC would opt in.

@Burnin - That would require things like honesty and integrity, so I highly doubt it. Those aren't exactly qualities MS is known for. I'm sure they'll continue to charge for it for as long as they can.

 

So....by charging for and providing something currently, they are being dishonest? Guess they should provide it for free and continue to support it into eternity for the minority still using it. And if you say the majority are still using WMC, can I see
accurate, current proof of such?

 

Yes, they are being dishonest by not stating their intentions and continuing to sell a product that they apparently have no intentions of supporting. It's sure as Hell not a display of integrity either.

I obviously don't expect them to support it for free when they're not even supporting their paid product. You obviously haven't been paying attention if you think I said anything otherwise.

Where did I ever say anything like "the majority are still using WMC"? You're just attempting to put words in my mouth and trolling at this point with your entire post.

 

Lestat that why there is no chatpad on the one. Not meny people used it. MICROSOFT collect data what being used on there system. If XBOX 360 and XBOX ONE connected to LIVE. It sends a report to MICROSOFT what featuer,accessory or add on is used in a given
time. That why we don't have Vocies masking on the 360. Because it wasn't widely used. MICROSOFT collects useage data everytime you online on XBOX LIVE. There is some featuers are not collected due to it needed to work or it just a baseic function of the devices.
