Xbox One Digital Audio hookup question

I'm looking to buy my Xbox One this weekend, but my Receiver does not have HDMI inputs, just digital audio. I have a projector with HDMI, but obviously no audio through the projector, so I'll have to take advantage of the digital audio until I shell out
the money for a new receiver. I was on the site and there is conflicting info about the digital audio.

My question is: Do you need a TOSLink Optical audio cable? Or do you need an S/PDIF digital coax audio cable? The instructions to hookup mention both and I don't want to be sitting in my basement on Friday night with the wrong crap.

    :)

When will 5.1 via Optical Audio be available for Xbox One?

  3. Digital Audio and the Xbox 360E

I have a few questions regarding hooking up Turtle beach X42's to my new Xbox 360E console (The newest Xbox 360 model). Obviously the HDMI Adapter for the original 360 doesn't fit the Audio jack on the brand new 360, as it looks to be a regular headphone
jack. Firstly, what size is that headphone jack on the back of the new 360? A 2.5mm or a 3.mm? Secondly, in order to hook up the digital audio cable running to the Turtle Beach reciever, what should I buy to make that happen? A USB to Digital Audio out? Would
that work with this model 360? Or a headphone jack as one end of the wire and a digital audio hookup at the other end? Thanks for any help in advance.

  4. Xbox One Digital Audio hookup question

Just for semantics' sake: Both TOSLINK and digital coaxial are forms of S/PDIF.

The form of S/PDIF the Xbone uses is TOSLINK.

Now with that out of the way, currently only DTS is supported over it. So you need something that can decode it. If you wanted to use Dolby Surround you are out of luck.

    [MOD REMOVED]!!

I'll have to check out my receiver but I'm pretty sure it's Dolby. Is it straight up not supported? Or will it just play in stereo rather than surround?

  6. Only stereo supported at the moment. A future patch is supposed to enable Dolby Surround.

Ok, so I can at least hook it up and get audio, it's just not going to be fancy until I get the cash for a new receiver. Not the best case scenario, but at least I'm not playing deaf. Thanks for your help dude.
