Xbox One detecting folders but not files

I am having the same issue, but this started happening when I downloaded the update to the most recent Windows 10 Version a few days ago. The other thing I noticed is that my Media Sharing Options do not stay on when I restart my computer.

The Xbox One X is finding all the media servers, and folders but not the actual files within the Media Server.

When I open Movies & TV app on the computer I can see the folders and files, but when I choose the option to see files in the Media server it does not show files within the computer either.

    :)

    Hi Helo,

We appreciate you reaching out to us! So the Xbox One X cannot locate files after updating Windows 10? Try this method: Run the
    System
    File Checker tool
    (SFC.exe).

System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and
restore corrupted files. It will scan your system files and to repair missing or corrupted system files in Windows. Also, please try to perform a

    clean boot
, this helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install
a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows 10. After trying these steps, restart both the pc and Xbox One X.

I hope this helps. If the issue remains unresolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help!

I did all the steps that you suggested. I even went as far as deleting the Movies & TV app from the Xbox One X and it still does not show any files under my Media Server. It detects the server just fine, but shows nothing

As you can see from the included image it navigates to the area that I need but no files appear and the system thinks that it is empty.

I have also updated the Xbox to the most current updated software.

I rectified this fault completely by chance.

Going into 'This PC' in the file explorer, you'll probably find the PC you're working on designated as a network location. I deleted this location, rebooted the PC, and BAM! The files now all appear in my media player.

Weird as hell i know, but it worked for me.

unfortunately this did not work for me. And now that I deleted it, I no longer have a way to set it up as a media server again. Now that Homegroup has been removed off the new Windows 10 update.

    Hi Helo,

Thanks again for the information! We investigated this situation and have a few questions.

    • Have you tried turning off the option to media share?
      • If you haven't already, turn off the media sharing option, restart the PC, turn media sharing on
    • Are you using an external hard drive or the Xbox App?
    • Have you tried to uninstall/re-install the Xbox
      App?

Here are steps below on how to uninstall and reinstall Xbox
    app:

    1. Click Start, and then type Windows PowerShell on the search box.
    2. Right-click, and then select Run as administrator.
    3. Type the following command to uninstall Xbox
      app: Get-AppxPackage
      *xboxapp*|
      Remove-AppxPackage
    4. Hit Enter.
    5. Launch Windows Store and download Xbox
      App.

    I hope this helps.
    Let us
know the results. We hope to hear back soon.

I can actually no longer create a media server. The only way that I can send files to my XBoxOne X is to cast the file through Windows Media Player. I have already uninstalled and installed the Movies & TV app several times.

I am using an external drive on my computer to store my files, but that was irrelevant prior to the update being installed.

The media sharing option turns itself off when I restart my computer. I have to turn it on and when I do the server no longer appears as an option in the Xbox One X Movies & TV app.

on the PC find the file you want to share right click on it and look for CAST TO or PLAY TO and see if your device is listed, there are smarter sites that talk about doing this.
