    The question i have is this. A couple years ago, i was working at toys r us, and during the liquidation, i bought the xbox demo unit. I have the xbox itself working perfectly, with wireless controllers. The "wired" ones that were with it work when plugged
    in, the connectors are there for batteries, and I've checked the traces and thet seem intact. Do they not work because of the firmware? Is it possible to get them to work with batteries?

    Its also possible that these are specifically designed to only work wired up to the demo unit in case of theft.

    So I worked retail and we had gaming hardware units on display. They always came with games loaded and locked settings for retail demo mode. It could very likely be the firmware on it. They do a load on these things before they get sent to stores most
    often. I'm not sure there's a way around that.
