Xbox One Defects (Don't Screw me)

My mom not knowing that earlier consoles can have problem got me a day one edition xbox one for Christmas. It worked perfectly fine for a while. Then after a while I started to have disk reading errors and when I inserted the disk it would make a grinding
sound like it was trying to push the disk back but couldn't. I looked it up online, it was a defect in the disk drive and many people were having similar problems but an easy fix was to tilt the xbox one up when you put the disk in so i wasn't to upset. Then
recently my xbox one started to turn off by itself. I would be playing then randomly I would hear the sound of it turning off then it would. I cannot play more then 10min or less at a time. These two things are related to defects in the console and I am not
responsible for them. However, a few days ago I registered my console because of the power off problem and the warranty was up in February. It is ridiculous to me that i would have to pay 115 dollars for something that was your fault. I have been a customer
for 8 years. I have had ring of death two times and warranty did not matter then. It was fixed for free both times as it was your fault for the defect. It should be your responsibility to fix or replace my xbox

    :)

  3. my console didn't break in this exact way, so I don't get a game evidently...

So let me get this straight, my console is broken, I have to wait for the replacement to arrive in the mail, but evidently since it didn't break in one specific way I don't get my free game.

Any one else feel like that's BS?

I have to wait just like everyone else to play my games but I'm SoL because I got defect B instead of defect A...

First of all, I'm very sorry for the issues you're experiencing. I think we've all been there to one extent or another and can certainly identify with your issues.

Red Ring of Death was a known hardware defect due to a variety of issues (things like decreased airflow, improperly-rated materials used to adhere the graphics chip to the motherboard, and even a lack of instruction in the original documentation indicating
that the device shouldn't be plugged into a surge protector/power strip) which resulted in an extraordinarily high percentage of failures in consoles. As a result, MS covered it for an extended period of time, as a sort of de-facto recall.

The number of people experiencing the disc drive issues are far less than those experiencing the red ring, so it seems unlikely that it will be part of any sort of extended warranty "recall." As you mentioned, early consoles have issues, and actually, I
believe the expected failure rate of any new piece of equipment is somewhere around 2-3%, so unfortunately, it just happens sometimes that you were unlucky enough to get one of the ones that went bad. It certainly isn't your fault, as you said, but it isn't
necessarily a widespread "console defect" either - sometimes, things break without a reason, which is why most companies give a year of warranty. When the year has only just expired, it can feel especially unfair to have to pay for a repair. I hate that that
is the case, because I know firsthand how frustrating these issues can be.

The best thing to do would be to contact support directly (1-800-4-MY-XBOX) and explain the situation to them, maybe even speaking to a supervisor or Tier Two support, to see if they will grant you an exception.
