Xbox one - day one hardware

I have always played digital games since getting my Xbox one. recently I have started to buy disc games. Within a month it has slowly deteriorated and now doesn’t read discs at all. This was a wide spread, well known issue in day one edition users. Microsoft
flailed to let us know about it and only now because I’ve attempted to play disc games have I become aware and researched this issue.. Ofcourse I’m out of warrenty and I’m having to pay all this money to get a refurbed device when mine should have been in
full working order. My console is in perfect condition and this should not be happening. Xbox one consoles were not cheap and from such I trusted company I expect the best service and the highest quality product. Instead I’m now having to pay Microsoft to
fix an issue they have known about for over 3 years. I understand my warranty has ended but I would have known about the issue sooner if I had played disc games and more importantly been notified by Microsoft as my device was registered on day one. Chat advisor told
me to write it here and an ambassador would be able to assist me.

i pre ordered at Walmart but my receipt says xbox one hardware. Is that day one?

 

Erm....................Not much that can be done really.

I mean is it Microsoft's fault really? if it was such a "wide spread, well known" issue at the time why didn't you think to yourself "maybe I should check my DVD drive out, perhaps it has an issue". I mean I still have my original day one Xbox One and its
DVD drive is running fine. Was there a problem with some Xbox One DVD drives? more than likely, was it "wide spread"? I doubt it.

Basically dude, its out of warranty and you cant expect Microsoft to cough up a free Xbox One for you.

Actually thinking about it, there is something you could do yourself to fix it. Now I'm not saying you should do this, just that its an option. You could look online and find some guides on how to replace the faulty DVD drive, not going to link to one
(I'm sure you can use Google) you wont have to worry about the warranty because like you've said, its out of warranty.

Sounds like chat support have done their usual trick of telling people to post here with misinformation because they don't know what to do.

If the warranty has expired then you'll have to pay to have it repaired.

The disc drives in the earlier xbox ones are not the greatest,i've had several fail on me since launch & I hardly use the disc drive.

Due to the rip off price Microsoft charge to repair a console you would be better off just getting a new console,it doesn't cost much more to buy a new console than it does for Microsoft to repair your old one.

 

My day one had the issue too. I remember sending it off and until WW2 it was fibe but every now and then it has a hard time noticing WW2 disc gas been inserted and I have to reinsert it.

To be honest i think when an issue is known before warranty expires companies shouldnt be allowed to use the whole warranty expired issue because in effect the issue wasnt caused my length of use. I purchased an extended warranty through the company i bought
my xbox from so when my xbox one run out i was lucky because the company sorted it but my day one efition disc didnt start playing up when a lot of peoples did so i would have been up the creek too. You'd think they would have put some sort of message up on
the loading screen to inform people they needed to send it off before the ussue started/was noticed.

 

People seem to forget that the disc drive does need cleaning every now and again, as even one small speck of dust on the laser lens can interfere with and prevent the disc from being read.

It`s also important to keep the discs themselves clean as grease and dirt on the surface of the disc off your hands can also affect how easily the disc can be read.

The first thing to do is to perform one or two cycles with a good quality cleaning disc and if that does not work then look at other options.
