    Xbox One Data Usage

Just a quick question regarding how Microsoft plan, if at all, to make the data usage issue less of an issue? I understand that millions of people benefit from super fast unlimited fibre optic broadband in this day and age but there are also quite a lot
of people, like me, who don't. Let me point out Canada as a classic example! Although I don't live in Canada, I'm actually from the UK but my data limits are 15GB a month. My internet speed and latency on the whole isn't an issue but my data cap is and I don't
live in an area where I can benefit from a decent unlimited broadband connection so this is basically the best offer I can get. I'm sure there are many other people in the same boat as I am and, to be fair, the update sizes of the games on Xbox One are ridiculously
    large.

It's almost as if they're making you download all the DLC content, even if you haven't bought it. I say this because when, on the odd occasion I do purchase DLC content it activates immediately when back on the old Xbox 360 it used to have to download the
DLC content after purchase. Personally, I'm in favour of downloading what you need (i.e. patches, etc.) and not downloading everything else unless you specifically choose to download that "everything else". Now I may be wrong here but how else would DLC content
immediately activate without having to download anything unless it was already downloaded??

Secondly, how much data on average would a game (e.g. Titanfall) use on Xbox Live multiplayer? I've been holding off going online on the Xbox One because I daren't in case I go over my limit. Back on the Xbox 360 the online multiplayer data usage is minimal
and the size of game updates are extremely small like a handful of megabytes. Obviously I'm aware that the Xbox One uses bigger graphics and therefore will require bigger updates but let's take Dead Rising 3 as an example here...13GB, seriously?? Also Forza
5...when I put the game in for the first time it demanded 10GB! Since then it's required numerous 2-3GB additional updates and I've had my Xbox One for less than a year. What's more it refuses to let you play the game, even in offline campaign mode unless
you install the updates. Allow me to point out once again that the Xbox 360 used to let you continue playing but would just not let you use the Xbox Live features unless you updated so you could still effectively play the campaign. As a result I'm not really
using my Xbox One all that much these days, I tend to use my Xbox 360 and will probably continue to do so until Microsoft decommission it entirely (I believe they're scheduled to do this sometime in 2016, correct?).

So, based on the above, does anybody know how much data on average the Xbox One uses playing a multiplayer game online for about an hour? The Xbox 360 probably uses less than 60-100MB per hour and my fear is that the Xbox One will use substantially more
(a rough guestimate around 500mb-1gb per hour...I'm hoping that I will be proved wrong on this because if my suspicions are correct it looks like I won't be able to use my Xbox One very much at all).

I cannot see me getting a better internet connection any time soon simply because of where I am and what deals are available to me and I'm obviously not going to relocate for the sake of an Xbox console. But I am a really keen gamer and in the days when
Xbox 360 is totally a thing of the past (e.g. 2016 onwards) then I'd really like that, by then, Microsoft have come up with some way of compressing data. Take MKV for an example...amazing video quality with really small file sizes!!

    :)

    What is this?!?!

    Hey LadyJadey,

Thanks for posting, and sorry to see the high bandwidth usage! Has your Xbox One's data usage looked accurate after 5/31? This may have been a visual bug, and your Xbox One console most likely has not reached anywhere near 3,600 TB of data usage. The most
reliable tool to check internet usage will be through your ISP. Any bandwidth usage your Xbox One console actually uses will reflect on the ISP side. I would not worry about your Xbox One console using that much data unless your ISP is reflecting the same
    amount of usage.

Hope this helps clear up the issue!

support have said, you cannot check your data usage on xbox1, if you can check data usage on windows, surely it would be quite easy for Microsoft to include this function in xbox, at least one can budget ones data

If you have the latest update for the One they added a bandwidth usage display in the Network settings so you could check out the figures for yourself

    XBOX One data usage.

It would probably depend on the game. Dead Rising 3 and Titanfall both seem to be doing quite a bit on the server side so they might take up a decent chunk of your bandwidth.

I do not know if WINDSTREAM has a limit or not.

I use nearly 200 GB a month the most I used was nearly 400 GB.

Wow 15Gig data cap ouch. Digital BF4 plus premium DLC and patches is like 40Gigs. Some of the patches for other games like Dead Rising 3, Need for Speed Rivals, Call of Duty Ghosts are in the 200-600MB range. One thing extra you can do is disable voice in
games since VOIP stuff can consume quite a bit a bandwidth even more so in Party Chat since they upgraded codec for that which sounds great, but uses even more data. Just purely playing online doesn't consume all that much bandwidth though. Want to say Battlefield
4 with 64 players is probably around between 30kB/s-80kB/s and Call of Duty 16 players around 15kB/s-40kB/s with 1 kB/s being 3.6 MB/hr.

Also I would disable the game DVR since it auto records and uploads some moments from games automatically. So if your upload is factored into your cap those clips are something you can do without.
