  1. Xbox One Dashboard fails to load (black screen) unless X button is pressed on controller

    Greetings,

February 7th 2015, Western Australian Time,

Installed February 2015 update on 3 months old Xbox One (Advanced Warfare edition), after restart Xbox logo (green screen, three dots) appears fine and transitions into a black screen. Black screen remains unless I hold X button on my controller at which
point the console asks me if I want to shut it down but before I can act the Dashboard (Tiles) finally loads, bypassing shutdown question and proper functionality is restored.

No changes made to setup or cabling prior to and past the update. Xbox fully restarted before update. Resetting display settings produces no results as Xbox continues to display above behaviour when restarted or shutdown (Power Saver Mode).

What seems to be a problem? How can it be addressed?

    Kind Regards

    Daniel

    :)

  2. Update?

So I got an update today and after it was done I got a black screen. Pressed the guide button to dashboard. Confirmed that, yes I wanna go to the dashboard, and my X-Box crashes. LOL. Wut? This game is so broken. Anyways. Anybody know what the update did?

Console won't load past initial start up screen

Does this work if it loads to a black screen only. On March 2nd I cold rebooted my console, due to lag on the tv side. When I turned it on the screen stays black. Light on console comes on and make the sound when power button is pressed. After that just
    a black screen.

Have you tried doing a hard reset? Hold down the power button for 5-8 second until the console shuts off. Wait 30 secs to 1 minute and restart. See if that helps.

  5. Greetings,

While I have not managed to resolve the issue here are some additional clarifications…

    I have tried the following:

    - Leaving Black Screen state for 1 hour plus,

    - Power off (at the power point) of both TV and Xbox for 1 hour plus.

    - Hard reset,

    - Changing cables and changing HDMI ports,

    - Changing display configuration on box Xbox and TV (forcing HDMI, forcing 720),

    - Following MS troubleshooting article Troubleshooting a Blank Screen TV or Monitor While Your Xbox One is on

    Additional observations are as follows:

    - Xbox have not experienced any unusual problems since purchase,

    - Xbox is used in a basic scenario for playing games/media, no input HDMI device is attached,

    - Xbox has 30% drive space left and has no USB device of any kind attached, controller is wireless,

    - This is not a traditional Black Screen of Death scenario from last year as TV continues to receive the video signal,

    - No audio is heard during black screen,

    - Once X button (home/guide) is being held the Dashboard loads accompanied by same animation effect as if it loaded for the first time,

    - Problem persists when Energy-saver shutdown or when restart is used,

    - Problem DOES NOT persist when Instant-on shutdown is used, assuming you have already forced the Dashboard/Home screen to load,

This certainly looks to me like a software problem introduced with the latest update,

Can I please have some assistance with this?

    Kind Regards

    Daniel

  6. Greetings,
    Additional update:
    - The problem persists on 8 out of 10 power ups, cannot establish common denominator,
    - Kinect not connected and never used with the device,
    - Auto sign in produces same results, boot up process stalling at sign in point and only progressing once X home/guide button is held,
    - Manual sign in stalling at the appearance of Dashboard/Tiles (as discussed above),
Is this a correct place to report this issue?
Can I please have this escalated?
    Kind Regards

  8. Xbox One Dashboard fails to load (black screen) unless X button is pressed on controller

    Greetings,

I have spoken with Xbox Support, their response was typically disappointing… Restore to Factory Defaults.

That is NOT a solution if you have 500GB plus of digital content.

I have noted that if you want to make a digital content, cloud based console you MUST have tools to service it appropriately.

And speaking of Cloud… (do not get me started here), my latest experiment involved booting up the console in offline mode or if you prefer with network cable disconnected. Surprise, surprise, problem went away. 100% success boot up with 5 plus tests performed,
including restarts, shutdowns and the like.

As an additional step I have restarted my network infrastructure at home (modem/router, ethernet over power devices and switch),

Following that I have placed the console in online mode, refreshing network configuration to ISP defaults (I was using Google DNS before for faster downloads),

Once again, 100% successful boot up with few tests performed.

I believe Microsoft failed to align their online services/cloud correctly with the latest patch and either addressed the issue within a day that followed or my network connectivity was degraded. Considering I have 3 PCs and countless smart devices at home
that are internet enabled that worked fine I am incline to believe it was Microsoft’s end. Never the less, for now it appears the problem is fixed… without following silly advice of “Restore to Factory Defaults”.

    So in short…

    - Try booting console in offline mode, confirm functionality,

    - Power cycle your networking devices and internet connectivity,

    - Try booting console in online mode, ensure network settings are setup correctly,

I am marking this as a suggested solution, please let me know if it worked for you.

    Kind Regards

    Daniel

P.S. Microsoft, can I have 6 hours of my life back please?

  9. Greetings again,

Two days later this problem returned…

The solution seems to be booting up Xbox in offline mode or without network connection.

Then re-enabling the connection and everything returns to normal.

Is anyone else experiencing similar issue? If so, can you share your insight into it?

    Kind Regards

    Daniel
