Xbox one cuts power

Hi there,

When I plug my console, the power brick led gets orange. When I turn the console on, the led goes white, then the console cuts power after about 5 seconds. No matter what I try - it does this. I’ve tried different power bricks, and still no joy.

Has anyone else had this issue, and how did you guys solved it?

I’m a bit upset - as this is my 5th faulty console (2 xbox360 with the RROD, and 3 Xbox one with this issue) - and it usually happens after the console is out of warranty - and the repair is more expansive than a new one.

Does it make sense to remain on Xbox - or is it the time to move to another console?

need help power is fine comes on just after 5 mins it cuts off

my xbox one evertime i try and play games power cuts off then i got to reboot it again

You could have a look at you energy saving setting Energy-saving Mode | Instant-On Mode | Xbox One Power Modes

I don't know where you live but could it also be possible that you get mini power cuts in the middle of the night? This would also mean that you Xbox would remain off after the power cut and not go back into instant standby mode.

Hi, thanks I have tried this but still not working. Does anyone know how long the warranty is on xbox one? I've had it 1 year and 4 weeks!

Electronics can have a safety lockout. This lockup is cleared by its removing power cord for a few seconds.

All electronics have surge protection. Long before the PC existed, industry standards defined it as 600 volts for 120 volt appliances. Today's appliances are often more robust.

An adjacent power strip protector can compromise (bypass) this protection.

It is possible that the power brick is damaged, but try this:

1. Unplug the brick from its power supply from the wall.

2. Unplug the brick from the console.

3. Push the power button on the console about 3-4 times to pull everything from the system.

Hopefully by doing that, it will reset the brick.

I had the same issue a while ago and the solution above worked for me, after panicking I noticed the PSU light was out, unplugged it and tried it on another socket to find it worked, then plugged it back in where it belongs and it's been fine ever since,
I didn't know about the built in surge protector so that explains why it worked. Hope it works for you too.
