Xbox One "Cricket Noise" when playing games

Hey guys,

Was curious if other people are getting this noise while running their games that are
installed on the hard drive.



The video above is almost exactly the same sound I get. I only notice it when playing installed games. I'm in a small, quiet room, so the sound is pretty distracting.

Is this a normal sound of the hard drive functioning properly? Don't want an issue down the line!

My Xbox One makes a strange noise only when I play games off of the Hard Drive.

The noise sounds a little like this (not my video):

I have only experienced this with Sunset Overdrive, as it is my only game.

Is it normal to hear new sounds when playing installed games? Worried something might be wrong with the Hard Drive, and the sound itself is distracting when the TV has a low volume or the game is paused.

That is definitely not a normal sound. I'd give Support a ring in your region.

 

Interesting.. How often does the sound happen? Is it random, or do you get the same sounds when you play certain games?

I will see if my drive makes any weird sounds with Chariot, and will follow up.

If a hard drive was faulty, or if the drive heads were failing, you'd here a knocking/clicking sound on a constant basis, and things would load at a snail pace.

It could be dust on the fan. But opening the box voids any warranty.

 

Quick question.. I noticed that there was another post a few months about it, and the recommendation was for you to ring support.. Did you follow up with them, and if so, what was the outcome?

I only notice it while running Sunset Overdrive (my only 'retail' game). Chariot and other Xbox One apps remain whisper quite.

I've had the box for a week so I doubt it is a dust issue!

I rang MS Support and they were great on the phone. I am just hesitant to go the route of repair right now. Amazon cannot replace my unit as they are out of stock.

Kinda just curious how "normal" this is! My room is quite and I'm only a few feet from the box.

 

Any other thoughts on fan noise? Anyone experiencing this?

 

I had a Sunset bundle that made a similar sound. It was much louder though and was persistent the entire time the system was on (not just playing games). The replacement is much quieter although there's still some slight noise but it's only really noticeable
if you're standing right next to the system.

 

Me too, brand new console, not the fan; the noise starts and stops with gameplay

 

lol ya same and it was sunset overdrive at first but it happend with cod also , i notice my system was very hot so i put a fan to blow on it and after it cooled down the noise stopped but when it is very hot this noise always comes back and sometimes i need
to eject and put in a disk twice because it will not read it , it will say insert disk .

 

also i dont want to send in for repair if it is not a real issue because there is no way i want to rei nstall all my games and most are digital downloads and my x1 is full after downloading farcry 4 and dragon age it would take forever and use up 500 gigs
of internet .

 

well my warranty expired 12 days ago and its not covered so i had to go buy the unity bundle today so i hope it works for longer than the first one because lasting 1 year is shady , but i did get a email a hour ago and there going to cover it i think i have
not got a response yet but if they do it would be great and renew my faith in xbox after being with them from day 1 of the original xbox . I guess i will give one as a gift or just keep both and trade in one of my keincts since i have two now , plus i love
the keinct the voice operations are great and i love it for making videos .
