  1. Xbox One - Credit Card Problem With State/Province (solutions for those still having this ...

I read many posts, which didn't really help (or the answers were so far apart that it is impossible for people to figure things out - I being one of them... for 3 days).

I know many people have not yet bought an XBOX ONE, or recently bought one - I being one of them, as I was and still am enjoying my PS3 alongside my new XBOX ONE. This thread are for people who will encounter this problem.

I was trying to "purchase" the XBOX ONE Live Gold free trial. But, like many I couldn't fathom why I could not input my Canadian residency for payment. Here are all the solutions:

1 - I would check out this one to make sure you have the right locale. This part is taken from Microsoft itself:

    1. "On your console, sign in using your Xbox Live-enabled gamertag.
    2. Go to Settings.
    3. Select System.
    4. Select Language & location.
    5. Select your new location from the list, and then select Restart now"

2 - Create a billing account to make matters easier. Under this url, choose the option to add a billing payment, which should be the third option below your giant avatar:

    https://account.microsoft.com

3 - Visit this link (or if the link becomes obsolete, then simply look at the very bottom of this page that you are currently browsing. There is an earth icon with (most likely) the American locale. Click on that, and it will take you to
a new page. Basically, it should be the same one as in the link below if it hasn't changed in the future). Choose your locale:

    https://support.xbox.com/Shell/ChangeLocale

If you cannot see your country, click on "View the full list"

Once you follow these steps, it should do the trick! Hope it helps anyone who gave up long ago, OR who will purchase an XBOX ONE soon.

    :)

  2. Xbox Store Tax ? Why

In Canada the only 2 provinces they don't charge tax is Ontario and quebec, where they still have retail stores, from what I get they consider any digital purchases as using a gift card (even if you use a credit card) and a gift card is not taxable its a nice loophole they abuse in those provinces

    Xbox Live Credit Info

Hi my problem is that when I go to enter my credit card info it asks for the state/province but only lists US states/provinces, I live in British Columbia Canada and thus I cannot finish inputting my card info to get Live Gold. I have already migrated my
account to Canada because it was in US for some reason yet I still only get US state.

    Any help please?

Because locale doesn't affect your account region nor your billing region

It has nothing to do with it at all

You must use the commerce.Microsoft.com to see where your billing region is

To change your region you must use the region migrations tool under account setting at xbox.com

    Not accounts.Microsoft.com

Any billing issue should be taken care of by support

People tend to use the US as default hoping to bypass the region filters it only causes problems

Us is not the default setting you must set your account region when you set up your account

    live.xbox.com/.../AccountMigration

Is the correct link for region migrations tool

Changing the xbox.Com locale won't solve the problem as it's an account setting

    Not a Web page setting

That would be why you cannot add a Canadian creditcard

Changing your locale doesn't affect your billing account just the content you see

I love how people thinks I'm wrong when those ARE the steps I took to be able to pay. So, I think I know what the problem was and how I was able to solve it.

Migration only works if you physically MOVE. Which most people here will NOT be doing, especially when they just bought their XBOX ONE. I had problems paying, and changing the locale DOES help, as the website assumes you live in the US. Thus, it will automatically
    show you American states.

  9. Also, ngocphi, you are saying exactly what I am saying (aside from the fact that you think that the migration tool helps. That only helps if you're moving to a different country).

The content being displayed IS the problem. Thus, changing what countries is displayed, which in turn allows you to select your state or province is the solution.

  10. For those of you who thinks this makes no sense, try it now and see for yourself.

I just tried changing locale to France (as I speak French), and it shows up in French and displayed a completely different payment screen when I tried to purchase live gold.

    That's comlletely separate issue

The website defaults to their us but that does not affect your location setting

Your location setting is set when you create your account not after

When you go to the Web marketplace you have to change your locale on the website to see your local content but your are still billed your primary payment option if you have an us account an Canadian credit card won't work

Your assume that people don't create an us account to get English or us conent

They do so a lot and don't realize what problem it causes like 8015017

We aren't talking about us Canada issue

More like Germany UK france Belgium etc

Your issue is that you created an us account while not having an us creditcard

To correct it you must use the migration tool to migrate to canada

A Canadian payment option won't work with an us or French account no matter what locale you set it to

Your payment option region must match you're account region

If you have a Canadian credit card but have a us account and are physically in the us

The issue is simple use a us creditcard

If you are in Canada and have an us account you need to migrate your accounts to canada

The only time a state or province issue comes up is wit your payment optjon

Regardless of the locale is changed on the websiteif your accounts is American you cannot add an Canadian credit card even if you add change it to canada

Since your issue is your account region not your locale

If you have an us physical location and an American account then you can't add an Canadian creditcard

You must add an us creditcard

Issues like this should be dealt with with xbox billing support not on the website forums and not even in this subsection

It would be accounts and billing though we still refer them to billing support

I can tell you as an Canadian that an Canadian account can make Canadian purchases with an Canadian credit card without changing the locale of the website

It is the region of your account that is the issue

If you have an us account and physically are in the US then your only option. Is to use a us payment option

As mentioned you need all 3 to match

If you add an Canadian credit card on an us account and you haven't physically moved to Canada then your issue is the creditcard

Credit cards block international purchases frequently on purpose to block fraud except for on is transactions

Hence why they require your billing location to match
