Xbox One Crashing When Playing Certain Games

I'm having a really annoying issue with my Xbox One that I've noticed since last September.

I have a launch console, and when I play certain games they crash consistently. And when I say crash, I mean complete Xbox crash. The whole console shuts down and restarts. Before the crash the game freezes for about 5 seconds, and then there is a very strange
hum/buzz noise that lasts for 1-3 seconds. I have recorded this so you can see (it is a bit quiet): Video - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting

There are 2 games that this happens with - Shadows of Mordor & Neverwinter. I often can't play more than 5-10 minutes before a crash. If I'm lucky, I can get 30 minutes gameplay out of them. This issue happens with no other games that I have played.

Initially I thought this might be a disc drive bug, however that can be ruled out as Neverwinter is a download title. I also thought it might be my external HDD. I removed both games and re-installed them on to the native Xbox HDD - same issue.

I have taken steps listed on the Xbox support page including reinstalling the games, checking power supply, using lan cable instead of wi-fi, checking over-heating of the Xbox... nothing fixes the issue.

Oddly enough, I am not sure whether this is a bug to do with my account. A friend of mine played Shadows of Mordor on my Xbox for two hours straight on their own account with no problem. Either this was just complete luck, or the issue is caused by something
to do with my account.

Xbox One X and Call of Duty WW II

Game keeps stalling, sputtering and then crashing when rounding corners in the game cannot complete the first mission.

Playing on a Xbox One X

Had the Xbox One X and game for only two weeks.

Anyone else have this problem?

FIFA 14 - 2 player local

When playing 2 player local I can't even get through a game without it crashing the whole xbox.

Sorry to hear about the crashing issue, I can definitely understand how frustrating that could be. I recommend trying a few troubleshooting steps to see if we can get this issue sorted:

After the the crashing issue occurs, press and hold the power button on your Xbox One console for 10 seconds.

Once your console is powered off, unplug the power cord.

Wait 5 minutes and plug your power cord directly into a wall outlet.

Power on your console and try playing Neverwinter or Shadows of Mordor to see if the issue continues.

If the issue continues after trying the listed steps, I recommend resetting your console to factory defaults. This way we can make sure that we have exhausted all troubleshooting steps. You can find the steps to reset your console on our How

Re-update:

It seems to me that the Xbox only crashes when a certain game (MW3) is being played, as I have played numerous other games without it crashing. However, when I began to play MW3 it crashed after 10 minutes. The files re-corrupted also, and like I said the
Xbox seems to be OK on any other game. Could the disk be faulty? I'll try my theory again later to see if it is indeed MW3 or just a coincidence.

First, welcome to the Xbox community. I'm sorry you're having this problem.

Regarding this problem you are having, I recommend that you try the following solutions.

Solution 1:

Press and hold the "Power" button which is located on the front of the Xbox until the console turns off completely.

Unplug the power brick from the back of the console and make sure that you unplug it directly from the console and not the wall socket.

Press and hold the "Power" button of the console for at least 1 minute and release it. After releasing, press it a couple of times to completely discharge the static electricity.

Plug the power brick back in and wait for the orange light of the power button to turn white.

Press the "Power" button to turn the Xbox on.

*Test the problem games again.

Solution 2:

Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.

Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info.

Select Reset console.

On the Reset your console? screen, you'll see three options:

*Select to keep your games and applications, so that they are not deleted, if the problem persists, choose to delete everything from the console, as there may be something corrupted in the system.

*Make sure you know your email and password as this procedure will remove the account from the console, and you will need to add it again.
