  1. Xbox One controllers constantly disconnecting

Hi everyone. Been having a constant problem with my Xbox One where the controller will disconnect during use if it is held more than about a foot from the console. I have the most recent code level on the console itself as well as up to date firmware on
my two controllers. Making things even more frustrating, the problem only exists in my house. I've taken the system to the MS Store near me and cannot reproduce the problem there or anywhere else.

    I've done the following troubleshooting:

    • Fresh batteries in both controllers
    • Replaced console via MS Store in my area
    • Replaced controllers via MS Store in my area
    • Moved console between TVs in three different rooms - no difference
    • Turned off and removed batteries from cordless phones in house and unplugged base station
    • Turned off WiFi in my house
    • Ran WiFi analysis tool (I'm in IT and am very familiar with WiFi interference) looking for other access points from my neighbors. Several can be picked up but at very low signal/noise ratios, so its unlikely they are the source of interference.
    • Went so far as to trip the circuit breakers in my entire house except for the one powering the room where the console was at that time
    • House is only 6 years old so I shouldn't have bad wiring that is causing RF interference, and even if so, when I pulled the breakers in the rest of the house, I'd think that would reduce the likelihood electrical interference
I'm completely out of ideas here. The guys at my MS Store were very helpful but had no other ideas other than using USB cables. The controllers work perfectly when plugged in but last I checked this is 2015, not 2002! If this helps, here is a short video
    of the problem:

    Anyone have any other ideas?

    :)

Xbox One 1TB Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Bundle Problems

is anyone having issues where the controllers are constantly disconnecting from the xbox one and then won't reconnect? We got this same console and the controllers disconnect every few days and to get them to reconnect we have to unplug the xbox for 20
seconds then reconnect it. using the connect buttons on the controller/console does nothing for some reason (no issues like this on the regular xbox one we have). very disappointing.

    Xbox One controllers constantly disconnecting

There might be an area of your house with a large amount of metal girders. This might be creating a sort of Faraday cage effect on your console

  5. If anything that would almost be an ideal situation as that should eliminate any external interference from messing with stuff in my house. In any case, the home is wood construction (original owner and watched it get built) so I don't think that's the
    cause.

  6. Sounds like you did everything right to eliminate a potential source of RF interference in your house. But what about your neighbors? I'm not referring to WiFi access points, but other potential sources of RF interference like flourescent lights, dimmer
switches, ham radio transmitters, etc. Also, are there any electrical utility poles nearby that could be producing RF noise? Does your house have an electrical utility smart meter that transmits data? Since the disconnection problem doesn't occur when the
Xbox is taken away from your house, there may be some source of RF interference locally.

My controller disconnects periodically (usually at the worst time while in a game), and I finally gave in and connected it via USB cable.

  7. To be honest I wouldn't expect any good advice in here. If you talk about controller disconnects you will receive the commonly copied and pasted response from Microsoft and then the post being locked. The old post got to 2200+ posts before it was locked
even though loads of us had issues still. most have had multiple replacement xbox's with no joy.

For those that want the Microsoft response :

    ---------------

    Hey there everyone,

For those of you who are experiencing this issue and haven't already, I strongly recommend trying out the troubleshooting steps within our support article on what to do if your Xbox One controller disconnects. I would also recommend using your controller
connected with a micro-USB cable to the Xbox One console in order to help with the controller's connectivity.

If you've gone through all of the troubleshooting steps listed within that support article and you continue to experience the disconnecting issue after trying out two different controllers, we recommend setting your console up for a repair. To get started,
navigate to our Online Service Center. If you need additional assistance with setting up the console repair, give our phone support team a call by heading over to our Contact Us page.

If you're experiencing a different issue with your controller than what is described in this thread by the original poster, I would suggest creating a new thread detailing what you're experiencing. This way you'll have the opportunity to receive support
catered to you from our community.

Thanks again everyone for your patience and detailed posts along the way.

Thanks for the replies Shadow, Trial & Win2000b. I'm not surprised that this isn't getting more attention. Per Win2000b's point this is something that was beaten to a pulp months back and fixed (for some) by an update to the Xbox One. For everyone else
still having the problem, there seems to be no resolution other than using USB cables. In my case, with a pair of 1 year old cats in the house, that just doesn't work very well! Xbox One controllers constantly disconnecting :)

On a side note, I've borrowed a PS4 from a friend and its working perfectly here which is just crazy frustrating. Apparently 2.4GHz Bluetooth and Wifi is fine, just not the "custom, proprietary protocol" MS came up with for their new controller. Looks
like for now, my Xbox One is going to be the worlds most expensive video streaming box because I sure can't play games on it. On a related note, the official Xbox media remote works perfectly...

  9. I really dislike the practice of some mods who lock threads. Active communities often find solutions to problems that the manufacturer may have missed. This happens when a topic is kept open. (Threads should only be locked when the discussion devolves into
name-calling or inappropriate behavior.) An active thread may cause someone to post who has found a solution.

I recently had an audio problem with my Xbox One that stumped the telephone tech support people. To their credit, they really tried to solve it, but couldn't. The last suggestion was to completely wipe my Xbox, but I didn't want to do that. The next day,
I figured out what the problem was (it was my fault and the solution was simple). I emailed them so they could add it to their database, and they thanked me.

So, please don't lock threads while people are trying to solve issues where the Microsoft suggestions don't work.

  10. Hey Trial de Novo. Just realized that I didn't really respond to your earlier questions. So, as far as interference goes, I went so far as to cut the main circuit breaker to my house and attached my TV and Xbox One to a UPS battery backup that I have for
my computers (I'm an IT guy so I've got a lot of crazy computer stuff!) and that didn't make any difference at all. The only thing left would be external interference. I'm in a newish subdivision all with underground utilities. No large power lines around
or cell towers. Nothing obvious at least to explain it. Short of hiring an RF engineer with some expensive gear to come to my house, I've got nothin!

As for the locking threads thing, yeah right there with you. Killing that main thread that so many people were using wasn't cool because now there are just a bunch of these smaller threads like mine that don't have the same level of attention.

  11. So just got done chatting with Xbox support. Person I spoke with was very helpful and sympathetic but unfortunately had no suggestions beyond what I've already tried. The frustrating thing was that he'd not had any reports of anything similar. Jokingly
suggested that my house is haunted, which at this point, sure why not.

  12. Yeah whoever you speak to on the chat / phone at Microsoft never seems to know of any other cases. Probably told not to reveal numbers

My controllers disconnect quite often and I know why. I own this astro RX/TX wireless adapter for a headset:

If it is on, the controllers have issues. If it is off, they work perfectly. Do you guys have wireless headsets or adapters like this? They may be your problem.

  14. Anyone else get disconnected from xbox live after their controllers lose connection every few minutes? Nothing else on the network has any issues ever.

I have this same problem. I bought the Xbox One on launch day and for some reason the controller disconnects several times. There's times where it disconnects about 5 times in less than 2 minutes which is really annoying especially when you're playing online.
