Xbox One - Controller won't work with headphones

I have an Xbox One problem

Headphones work with other people's controllers on my Xbox, but not with my own controller.

I own two controllers:

Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller (purchased May 18)

Xbox One controller that came with the console

The headphones don't work with either. No audio no mic no sound.

Here are some things I tested:

Headphones won't work with either controller.

It doesn't matter which headphones I try, none work.

Those same headphones I used to text worked fine plugged into other people's controllers.

Paired other people's controllers with my Xbox and they work just fine with headphones. No problems.

Tried both controllers with other people's Xboxes and they don't work with headphones.

The firmware for both controllers are up to date.

Since it works fine with other controllers, probably save to assume it is not settings within the Xbox. I looked and couldn't see they were muted or anything.

If you go into Settings for both controllers you can adjust buzz, etc. but not Volume

The Microphone icon in the top right corner is muted when my controllers are in use. That switches to a headphone icon when other controllers are in use.

Suggestions welcome.

I am having a similar issue. My son received the Xbox One for his birthday in August along with a 2nd controller and headphones. Both controllers stopped working with the headphones over the past month. We thought it was the headphones, so he got headphones
for Christmas and they aren't working with either controller. We confirmed the headphones work by plugging them into another device, so we now believe it is the controller. However, I hesitate to buy another $50+ controller when they won't even last for 6
months. I'm trying to figure out if either of the controllers are covered by a warranty.

Here is the info on getting the elite Controller serviced. http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/accessories/servicing-elite-controller
You will put in a service request here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/devices
under your console. Change the category to Accessories and then under select issue type select Elite Controller. Then input your PID number from the controller and click create repair order.

Hello Leahmex,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Based on all the troubleshooting you have done, I can only assume that both of your controllers are in need of a replacement. Sounds unlikely but, you really did all of the troubleshooting that would need to
be done to find this out.

To look over your replacement options,

I havepurchased another controller and both still won't work even with the updates. However when I plug into another Xbox the headphones work great.
