Xbox one controller wont turn off after console is off.

Hello, I am seeing the same issue. My controller does not power off after shutting down the console. I have tried restarting the console, as well as checking the firmware version on the controller as suggested above, and it is up to date, but the problem
persists. Are there any other suggestions?

The first thing you may try is a Power cycle :
support.xbox.com/.../power-cycle-console

Then, if it doesn't work, you may check the current version of your controller. To do so, in the settings go to "Devices and Accessories". Select the Xbox One Wireless Controller and check on the left of the screen if there is an update (the current firmware
version is 1.1.2228.0). If it's not up to date, you may update it.

I got my xbox a few days ago everything was fine. Now when i try on turn on my xbox with my wireless controller it does not turn on. After i turn on the xbox manually the controller connects. After playing for a while when i turn off my xbox the controller
stays on. Idk what to do, i only have 1 wireless controller. Plz help!

I moved your post to its own thread so we can tailor our support directly to you. By any chance have you tried to
Troubleshoot your Xbox? Also, do if you haven't already I would suggest to perform a
power cycle on the Xbox while having the controller connected to the console via USB.




Also, (if it hasn't already been done) a we recommend a reset of the console
since the problem might be on the actual OS of the console so we would suggest a
Soft Factory Reset(while keeping games and apps)
Before resetting your console make sure of the following:

• There is a stable network connection.
  
• The information for all profiles is known (email and passwords)
  
  
  

Once the setup is complete it will ask if we want to keep settings or manual setup let's do
manual setup.



Give it a shot and let us know of any changes!

 

I can think of one thing to get your controller to turn off, take the batteries out, other than that, I can only suggest that you try what XBF

I just got an Xbox One X yesterday and experiencing the same issue. In addition, my controller won’t power on when pressing the home button. I also tried the methods Leslie suggested and no luck.

 

Hi, with the Xbox powered on press and hold the power button on the Xbox for 10 seconds, when the Xbox powers off pull the power cord out of the back of the Xbox and leave it out for 2 minutes, reconnect the power cord and power the Xbox on again using
the power button on the Xbox. Then try your controller again.

 

An additional thing I am wondering in addition to the information provided - do you have the option to turn off the controller before your console? You can do this by trying to hold the xbox button on the controller down for a few seconds. Does it stay
off if you do this before shutting off your console?

 

I just tried this and it does turn off/stay off. I just find it inconvenient that it doesn’t turn off when shutting down from home button or power on when using the home button. I didn’t have this issue with the previous Xbox One I had. I’m wondering if
it could be some bug with the Xbox One X Gold Rush Edition. Maybe BTommy purchased the same one?

 

WTH! It worked lol. I tested it twice. Thank you Juan and everyone else for your help! If the problem arises again I’ll let you guys know.
