Xbox One controller won't connect to PC

I just got a new Xbox One controller with the cable for Windows but I can't get it to connect. When I plug it in it vibrates and the light flashes. In settings it is listed under other devices but I can't use it in a game and the Xbox Accessories app says
to connect a controller. I am using Windows 10 version: 1709 build: 16299.64

Xbox one s controller is connected through bluetooth on pc but now what

I can stream my xbox one to my pc and connect my controller as well but my controller won't do anything on the pc. I just want to be able to play xbox one games on my pc, please help. Thank you

*note* the controller works for steam

Controller won't sync

My xbox one s controller that I bought a few days ago won't connect to my xbox, it can connect fine wirelessly to my PC or phone but not to my xbox one. My original controller will still connect to my console. The new one works via USB and there are no updates
available for it. Does anyone have any solutions?

I ran the troubleshooter and it said that it does not have a driver.

Hi

Have you tried checking to make sure you are using the latest version of Windows 10 to see if this resolves the issue?

Can you first try running
Windows Update on your PC and after this also try running
Windows 10 Update Assistant to make sure your PC is fully up to date.

Theory of Game

The Xbox One console doesn't support Bluetooth. That headset won't work with the Xbox One in any way.

The new Xbox One controllers (the ones that come with the Xbox One S) have Bluetooth, but that's only used to connect the controller to a Windows 10 PC through Bluetooth.

I suspect you're attempting to connect an Xbox 360 wireless controller to your PC using a Play & Charge cable? Effectively making it a wired controller?

I'm afraid this won't work. Unlike Xbox One/Series X controllers, wireless 360 controllers are always wireless, connecting a Play & Charge simply charges the battery or powers the controller if no battery is present. Unfortunately the cable doesn't send data.

The only way to connect these controllers to a PC is via an Xbox 360 gaming receiver. The receiver for Xbox one controllers is not compatible.

Xbox 360 controllers will not connect wirelessly to a computer. If you are trying to use a Play-and-Charge cable to connect through USB, that is not what it is designed for and won't be compatible. If you really want to use an xbox controller on your computer
I would recommend either purchasing an adapter build to do this, or one of the controllers out there that are built for PC.

There isn't a specific adaptor for the Series X/S controllers for PC. The current adaptor works just fine with these newer controllers, however it is now in very short supply. There are third party ones available that do the same thing.

The Xbox 360 wireless controllers use a different WIFI protocol, they need their own Xbox 360 wireless Gaming Receiver.

Xbox One and Series X/S controllers can be connected to PC via Bluetooth, but headsets will only work with the Xbox One adaptor (or a third party version), they won't work when the controller is connected via BT
