Xbox One Controller with 3.5mm headphone jack chat not working

I just recently purchased a new controller with the 3.5mm headphone chat port for headsets. I tried to use my apple ear buds with the controller and the sound worked fine, but the the controller wasn't reading a mic for chat. Am I missing something or is
the new headphone port only for sound?

XBox One Wireless Controller with Bluetooth 3.5mm not working

The XBox One Wireless Controller with Bluetooth 3.5mm (2016 version) is not working when using my Sony MDRV6 Headphones and connected via 3.5mm jack to my Xbox One (not using bluetooth to Windows 10). The left channel is basically dead air and the right
occasionally breaks up. I also have the 1st Gen wireless controller with 3.5mm jack (2015 version) and it works fine with my Sony MDRV6 headphones. I did try my Bose SoundSport In-Ear (without the in-line microphone i.e. not Apple version) and they work
fine. Both headphones are stereo only - no microphone to chat. I'm aware of the headphones (e.g. Apple) that have different coding for microphone and left/right channels and this is not the issue.

The only difference I can see is the Bose has a gold plated jack whereas the Sony has a silver plated jack. I've already returned 2 of these Bluetooth controllers and will probably return the 3rd because my Sony's sound great and are more convenient to
wear.

Why can't my Xbox One S wireless controller detect headsets?

I bought my Xbox one S Wireless Controller in August 2018, and the 3.5mm headphone jack has been working fine. Then, yesterday it just stopped working completely. Can someone help me?

Same with me. I have tried an iPhone headset (those won't work I read someplace), a Beats headset and a Skull Candy headset. All 3 receive the game audio but the mic isn't broadcasting. How can Microsoft market the 3.5 mm jack as working with all headsets
and i've already tried 3 and no mic capability from any of the 3!

Can someone provide some detail on what headsets will actually work when put into the 3.5mm jack?

Use android supported headset. Apple, beats and some skullz use apples tech and is not universally supported on every device.

if the headphones are still not working after adjusting the Audio and Chat settings, it could be that the 3.5mm jack in the controller is faulty.

try testing with a different controller to see if it's the controller or the console that is the problem.

Another note on the 3.5 stereo to 3.5 stereo male to male cord...

Make sure that the stereo jack on the TV is the same size as the stereo jack on your headphone "in-line" volume controller. Some headphones use a 2.5mm instead of a 3.5mm. The TV is most likely the 3.5mm size.

Compare the one plugged into the TV with the one plugged into you headset "in-line" controller. If they are the same, you will have no trouble finding a 3.5 to a 3.5 (The jack on the Xbox One controller chat converter is 3.5mm also).

If one is thinner than the other, you will have to find a 3.5mm stereo male jack to a 2.5mm stereo male jack. Where I live, the only place I found one was online (eBay is where I got one).

Yes, I believe you need a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack to connect the headset to the socket in the controller for these headphones to work.

as someone who ones one, the controller comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack which was plug and play. i bought the xbox stereo headphones which comes with an adapter for volume controls, muting etc

The 3.5mm headphone jack on Xbox One/Series X|S controllers (including Elite controllers) does not work when connected via Bluetooth. It will only work via USB or the official Xbox wireless adaptor.
